What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Moone Boy on hulu.

Comedy-drama created, co-written by and co-starring Chris O'Dowd - the semi-autobiographical story of his childhood in Ireland.

Light-hearted and funny. Watch one episode and see.

This series may make the 99¢ a month deal I got on Hulu worth the money.

hulu is great (especially at 99¢ a month), but OMG, they show so many prescription drug commercials!

Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller (National Geographic) on hulu.
I thought it was about human trafficking and didn't want to watch but it's actually something else.

I've just watched part of EP1 (scams in Jamaica (lotto winning scams) and in Isreal (investment scams), but it's been fascinating. It looks like each EP focuses on different topics. Mariana doesn't ask a lot of questions or good questions IMHO, but she's quite brave in getting in and talking to those dangerous people.

I don't think I will watch all the episodes, but I will watch a couple of more for sure. (Definitely S2 E2 - Romance Scams.)

I’ve watched the 4 available seasons of Friday Night Dinner on Amazon Prime. I found them to be hilarious, but my husband not so much. I like the parents in particular. It’s probably not for everyone, but I loved it.

The Witcher Season 2, typical Sword and Sorcerer and monster killing series 2. A little unnecessary excessive language, but that is just to let you know it is Pay TV, Netflix I think,

Finished "Castle" a couple of weeks ago. Now half way through "The Rookie".

If it doesn't have at least 3 seasons we pass until it does. Also watching "Midsomer Murders".

Cheers!

Irvine Welch's Crime on Britbox. Season 1, 6 episodes. Another very well done British police/ crime drama with a heavy Psychological slant for both the story line and the characters. This takes place in Scotland and us Americans MUST watch it with the sub-titles as you will NOT understand most of the dialogue and the heavy Scottish Brogue without it.
Worth watching and can be easily binged. I hope there is a 2nd season.

The Salisbury Poisonings - Based on the Russian Spy and his daughter's Poisonings with a Nerve agent. Very good, based on the actual events.

Finished off For All Mankind season 2 on Apple TV+ last week, looking forward to the third season. Good alt-history space race series, heavy on the drama and lives of the people involved.

Watching season 2 of the Witcher on Netflix, enjoying it as much as season 1 so far.

Going to watch season 2 of Mythic Quest on Apple TV+ after I finish off the Witcher, see if it still resonates pretty well with my own experiences making video games. :)

I'm watching Seinfield from episode #1. Did you know he used to date Elaine?

Yes. There are references to that throughout the years on that show.

That was the initial conceit even from the pilot, can a couple who used to date just be friends.

Well for the run of the series they were. She was just one of the guys, willing to take part in The Contest for instance.

Treated myself to Netflix for the first time ever and am currently hooked on Stranger Things (great in Season 1, slower in Season 2 so far) and ****'s Creek. The Crown is next. Will I keep Netflix longer than a month or two? I doubt it. The selection isn't that large--little else interests me. I was hoping they'd have a selection, say, of older classic movies.

I found the start of season 1 a bit dull and predictable. What do you think of season 1 vs 2?

I enjoyed Season 1 of The Witcher and will watch season 2.

But the character of Geralt in the show is quite a bit different from the Geralt of the books. In the books Geralt often out smarts his opponents, avoids doing business with blood thirsty jerks, or makes the wise decision to keep out of some quarrel that isn't his. He is a bit of a resonance man.

The Crown and Schitt’s Creek are both excellent shows. If you enjoy them, also try Queen’s Gambit and Kim’s Convenience before you unsubscribe. I’m sure others can chime in with more recommendations.

Not a new series, but PBS has an excellent American Experience documentary this week on Elizabeth Friedman, a master codebreaker who helped put the U-Boat wolfpacks out of business in World War II. One German message she decoded saved the Queen Mary from a torpedo in the nick of time as it transported soldiers across the Atlantic. She began her cryptology career in World War I and broke up a rumrunning operation during Prohibition. Her contribution to national security was a classified secret until just a few years ago.

It's being streamed online: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/codebreaker/#part01

"Vigil" on Peacock.

Have seen episodes 1 and 2. Good production values. Decent acting. Shaun Evans from Endeavour has a great supporting role.

Somewhat dicey premise--local police DCI investigates death on a British nuclear submarine because death happened in local waters near naval base--but if you can swallow that (I did) it's a fairly tense thriller. Basically, it's another well done British murder mystery in a unique setting. Also, I'm a sucker for submarine stories.

[Edited to add: Commercials are not obtrusive. Some were 30 seconds long and several were 15 seconds long. So maybe 3 minutes of commercials in an hour.]

Not new, but I am watching Beowulf on Amazon Prime. So far it's very good. I don't know how close it is to the old poem it is based on.
