What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I dunno, Hell's Kitchen (uncensored) has a lot of foul language. Free on PlutoTV too! Your grandkids probably watch for after-school TV.

I start swearing like a sailor after watching a few episodes.

Yeah, I agree, although I think the casual use of crude, explicit sexual references is intended to highlight how shallow and immature some of the characters are. Kind of like they stopped maturing around age 14. I don't particularly mind it, but it's definitely a case of "viewer discretion is advised."

Well with succession, you can definitely make a case that most of them are emotionally stunted, and yes definitely shallow and immature (which you can guess easily in the first 30 minutes of S1E1), and yes it is R-rated, F-bombs, bawdy, and quite cringe-y in places, which is part of the point though I think.

The Silent Sea (Dubbed) Interesting concept with the world running out of water.

Started Yellowjackets. - A little slow - Supposed to compare to Lord of the Flies, but with more aftermath scenarios.

Only official word is "later in 2022."

For this reason, we are holding out on starting S4 Pt 1. Besides, we have started HBO's Succession and we have become addicted to that show. When we wrap that up, we will move on to "The Morning Show."

Just finished Ozark Season 4 part 1 and a bit "frustrated" we have to wait months for the conclusion (since it won't be a new season, just a few more episodes). That said, it was excellent and the story takes more twists than you could ever anticipate. I guess breaking it up gives them one more "cliffhanger" for fans to come back for!

Just started "Stay Close" on Netflix, the latest adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel, again set in the UK. A suspenseful story with the usual Coben intricate plot lines of shady backgrounds of main characters.

"Billions" season 6 has started. Time to start annoying my retired Wall Street friends again :).

On Season 3, binging as fast as possible. [mod edit to remove spoiler]

Gonna pickup Ozarks again.

DW trying to get me into the Witcher.

I will heed the advice of the forum and check out better call saul soon. Too much content, not enough time!

Our plan is to wait until about a week of the release of S4 part 2 and then start in on part 1. Then the anticipation won't be that bad.

Somewhat unrelated but while purusing the new releases on Netflix, I noticed they have rearranged/renamed the seasons/collections of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." This has made it very difficult to determine which episodes we have seen. The same episode may be in 3 different collections and may only be marked as watched in ONE of those collections. I am not sure why they have done this, but I am NOT a fan of it. This reinforces the research I have seen that the average streaming user spends about 45 minutes A DAY trying to figure out what to watch.

Started the Gilded Age on HBO. It's released one-per-week. I had high hopes that it would be a biting smart period piece.

Pity...it's not. It's more a transplanted Downton Abbey, and not in a good way. I will still watch, but based on Ep1, these actors deserved better dialogue.

We wait till they are all done then binge watch them. Do not like waiting a week to view. We do this for EVERY series we watch have done for years.

DW and I just binged both seasons of Big Little Lies on HBO. Drama/mystery with an all-star cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. We enjoyed it, though DW found it intense at times. She needed to watch something lighter afterwards as a palate cleanser.

We’ve also been watching Atypical on Netflix, which is a comedy/drama about a family with an autistic high schooler. The writing on this show is excellent, and the cast is really good, too.

We really enjoyed the first 3 seasons of "Atypical" but season 4 was quite the let down. I don't think we made it through the 2nd episode.

We’re on the last episode of Season 3, so we’ll have to see how Season 4 goes for us. That’ll be too bad if it fizzles out. Lots of series do.

As a brand new HBOMax subscriber, I just binged Rome and it was compelling if a little heavy on the sex and violence but I'm told that that is HBO's bread and butter.

Now, I'm interested in checking out I, Claudius!

A Discovery of Witches, a little slow, not much different from other seasons but with a definitive ending, the last season.

Thanks! I watched a couple of episodes and never returned to watch the rest for whatever reason, but I still have access to it, so I'll probably put it back on my watch list. :)

I Claudius was a great series on BBC back in the 70's with Derek Jacobi. I would be interested in HBO's version but don't have a subscription ... yet.

It's not new, but I've watched several episodes of "New Tricks." It's about a task force at the London Metropolitan Police that works on cold cases. The task force consists of its leader, a woman, and three male police investigators brought out of retirement. All characters have their quirks and the show is about them using new technology (teaching old dogs "New Tricks") along with their old school techniques to solve crimes.

So far the cases have been fairly interesting--I'm 50/50 in solving them--but the real fun is getting to know the personalities of old guys that came back from retirement. The show is part comedy, part police procedural. It didn't bowl me over but it is winning me over. Will continue.

I'm watching it free on IMDB TV, so there is commercials. Also available on Hulu and BritBox.

I just looked and there is not an HBO version. The old, original version is still available on Acorn TV. I watched it awhile back and it was very good.

Thanks for this tip! I'm going to rewatch it before it goes under a second paywall (1st is cable subscription). Sian Phillips as Livia! She uttered one of the most stone cold sentences I've ever heard in cinema [After having just poisoned someone] -

"Sometimes, I think you forgot I was a Claudian. But I. never. did."

Had a funny experience last night. After watching a program I was surfing for something to have on before the news. I usually find an old series I may have seen just to have on in the background.

I turned on what I thought was a Midsomer Murders episode but couldn't figure out why they weren't speaking with a British accent and were acting strange. Shortly realized it was "Midsommar" instead.:facepalm:

I've enjoyed the first two episodes of SyFy's black comedy, "Resident Alien." The premise: an alien on a mission to kill all humans crash lands in winter near a remote Colorado town. He decides he must continue with his mission and so is forced to take on the physical appearance of a somewhat reclusive new resident (who lives outside of the town and is a medical doctor.) Coincidentally, the town's G.P. is found deceased under suspicious circumstances so the town leaders prevail upon the alien to take over the dead doctor's clinic.

The alien's high level of intelligence is only matched by his huge ego and his disdain for humans. The chink in his armor is the rare human being who can see him as the alien he actually is, not his adopted human form. There is one town person with that ability: a preteen boy who at this point is the main antagonist. Also creating problems is the alien's attempt to adapt to his human form. Some of the characters are a bit over the top but it is a comedy after all. And there's the mystery of who killed the town doctor. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more episodes.
Just 3 episodes in so far, and I guess I'll continue. I like the premise, and it's a dumb kind of funny, but I felt the story could have moved a bit faster. It's like they have a gag, they play it, then play it again, and again, then finally move on.
