2022 Tax Program Deals

I am a private client and have gotten the free TT for years and I see nothing on my Fidelity page. Not sure if this is because my assigned advisor left the company, nevertheless I emailed them to ask were is my offer.

Make sure your summary page is in beta mode. I had to do that to see the offer.

No free TurboTax for me this year, I've had it through last year via Fidelity.

I see the $20 off link but by the time I log in and find the download product, I don't see any discount being applied.

See the Deluxe with state at $60. I guess that is the discounted price. Premier is $90. If I open the site on another browser, not logging in, not linking from Fidelity, the prices are $70 and $105.

So the offer is "up to $20" off and you only get the $20 discount on the Home and Business product, normally $120.

Shop around and Amazon has the Deluxe for $56 and the Premier for $83, so better than the Fidelity discounted prices.

On Costco.com, the prices are the same as at Amazon but they offer a $10 credit to use for in-product services:

State E-file fees, additional state or Audit Defense. Limit one per license code. Add-on purchase must be made via payment card to receive $10 credit at the time of in-product purchase.

I bought the HR Block Deluxe plus State for $22.49 on Black Friday. Probably not the absolute best buy, but cheaper than I paid in 2021. It also has the Amazon gift card refund bonus offer, but I won't be getting a refund, so that is irrelevant.

Welcome to my club.

For folks not seeing the offer, make sure you are in beta mode. It made a difference for me.

I tried toggling beta mode on and off.

In either case, I had to search for Turbotax and it only showed the "up to $20 off" link.

Not a private client but after-tax accounts balance is well into 7 figures (though a trust account). Most of the investments are low-cost funds and ETFs.

I was in beta mode, toggled back to older mode, and still nothing. I don't know what Fidelity is doing or not doing to activate these offers, but I don't like it.

I used TT last year and want to continue with TT. I bought it at Sam's last year.

I just started reading this thread, most of what I have read is about Fidelity,
I don't have Fidelity. I note, I can get a physical disc or download a copy.
I suspect the download is cheaper, is it best to just download from Intuit or is there a better price somewhere?
I don't need it this early, is there a better time frame to purchase it?

BTW, I use Dinkytown (1040) to get a handle on how much to Roth convert
in the bracket I choose.

I would keep an eye on Amazon and Costco if you're a member. Amazon already had it's Black Friday sale, but there may be another chance to get a good deal before or just after year end. Others can reply, but I haven't seen it at Costco yet and they typically have a good deal on TT. If you don't need it right now, hold off until you do. If it goes on sale it's very likely that it will be discussed in this thread.

I used to start filling out TT with guesses just to figure out where I was at year end. I would have to go back and remove all the guesses once I got my actual tax statements later in February or sometimes March (!). I now also use Dinkytown and it gives me a close enough answer that I just leave TT alone until I have all my documents.

To add: When I spoke to support at Fidelity, he said they evaluate accounts every 24 hours to apply the free offer.
I didn't ask if the evaluation was using latest non-retirement account balances for those adding in more funds and cross the threshold
OR if they are monitoring how many people have taken the free offer and spread unused offers further down their client list.

Same here. I've been getting it since 2015. Nothing this year. (Yes, I tried beta mode). We even tried DW's login. Nada.

I sent a secure message to my PCG rep. We'll see what happens.

+1. I can open this calculator: https://www.mortgagecalculator.org/calcs/1040-calculator.php , enter my numbers, and get a answer faster than TT can load and update. I have checked it in the past against TT, and it is very accurate if you have a fairly straight forward tax return.

Has anyone who's not a Fidelity Private Client, that is not paying management fees to them, still got TurboTax this year?

Fidelity Private Client does not charge management fees. It’s just a perk associated with a higher level of assets.

What's the threshold?

Does the type of account matter?

My folks definitely had their wealth management and was paying them 5-figure fees.

Wealth management is something else entirely. As MichaelB said, Private Client/Premium Services just means you get somewhat better service; there is no fee involved. Fidelity doesn't like to give specifics about how they code clients. This is the only "official" response I've seen:
Designations like Premium and Private Client Group are based on the breadth of our clients’ relationship with us and are a way for us to recognize and thank you. Having your account under our Premium Services team or Private Client Group gives you the ability to work with a financial representative who understands your needs and serves as a point of contact for your relationship with Fidelity. You will also receive access to Fidelity’s thought leadership and local events and seminars.

Basically, I have a special phone support number and a named representative to contact. I also have received the free (now $5) TT for a number of years, but that seems to have some other qualifications that nobody has been able to figure out.

I certainly don't have a huge amount there, but my FIDO rep is an extremely nice guy and maybe he just likes me enough to keep me happy.

I got it and I am not a private client and I am not paying a management fee. In the upper right had corner of the Summary page it says I'm a "Fidelity Active Trader VIP" (don't know if that gets me the TT software). When I look at the requirements to be VIP (e.g. 500 trades a year) I'm no where near meeting those requirements, so I'm guessing I might be losing my status in the future.

Maybe you're on to something. I've always (7+ years) had the free offer. My status has gone from PCG to Active Trader and back to PCG. I quit using the free program when I had a problem a few years ago. I still get the offer every year. I believe the local rep is the key. He, or his assistant these days, checks in couple times a year. I always slide in a comment that our VG assets are also available if there where a substantial incentive. Anyway it's still a mystery to me. But I do get a kick out of those that are convinced they cracked the code.

I qualify for the Fidelity free TT offer, but I'm a bit confused. Does the offer only give me access to the online version of TT? I would much prefer to download TT to my PC. After following Fidelity's link and logging into TT its ready for me to do taxes online, but I don't see links to a downloadable version.

Read through the past week's posts in this thread and you'll see the (overly complicated) workaround to get the download version)

I pay no fees and I am considered an Active Trader VIP. Most of my trades are bonds. I have gotten free TT for several years now.

Thanks everyone. After many failed attempts, I finally succeeded at getting the TT download version for $5 + sales tax. At first, the method kept failing and the separate window for Turbotax desktop would either show the wrong, higher price or automatically redirect me back to the online version. I'm not sure of the exact link I used but I was looking through all the choices in my Turbotax account near "downloads" and "billing" and at some point clicked a link that took me to another window with the correct page with the right pricing. Success.
