Finding a vehicle is almost impossible

So far I am very pleased with my 2023 Ford Maverick hybrid Lariat. Over the course of the first 1000 miles I am averaging 44 MPG on mostly rural roads and 2 lane highways. My 26 mile commute to work is about 50 MPG in the morning and 43 MPG in the afternoon. No city driving and no interstate driving. I ordered it 9/16/22 and took delivery 8/9/2023 for $34Kish.

This is my second Maverick. I bought a gas AWD Maverick XLT in March off the lot because I feared my hybrid would not get built. It was nice too, but not as nice as the hybrid. I lost a little money trading it in, but less than what many have paid as a dealer markup on a hybrid. I also tell myself I just rented it for 5 months while waiting for my hybrid to be built. Previous car was a 2007 Taurus with 257,000 miles that the AC had died on.

Edit to add:
This is actually my 3rd Maverick. My first car in 1984 was a 1970 Ford Maverick.

I have 6500 on mine and I am averaging 44mpg. Ordered Nov 21 and received Feb 23. 479 day wait. Great truck.

I'm glad you like it I think I will also. So just about one year for you to receive it. Did Ford Comp. keep you updated on the build etc.??

I would imagine there won't be any dickering with price once the vehicle is at the dealer.

I worked with three different Ford dealers and finally found one I liked. Today was BTD day, ordered the Bronco Badlands like the photo attached. I have no clue when I’ll get it. Dealer said there’s a chance it could roll into the 2025 model year too.

I like it!! The longer it takes to get it, the longer we don't have to blow that dough. Lol

Really hard to believe we still are in this funk waiting for material, lack of workers and all the issues with production.

True!

In talking with the dealer it’s still a combination of popular vehicles of which the Bronco Badlands is one and the sourcing of some parts.

Now you can get the Badland in 4 doors also, right?

Yes, that is true more demanded models are harder to get. They told me that too.

I would suggest you continue to look at Ford. They out sell all the other manufacturers and they out sell Toyota ten to one in full size trucks.

For model year 2023 ordering was a free for all. Dealers didn't know how many allocations Ford with give them and took way more orders than their allocations turned out to be. Ford planned on 35% of orders being hybrids, but more than 70% of orders received were hybrids. For model year 2024 Ford told dealers ahead of time how many each dealer could order, so there shouldn't be more orders than capacity to build. If the dealer accepted your 2024 order, it should get built eventually.

Ford sent update emails every 45 days saying sorry you have not been scheduled yet.

The best way to stay informed is MaverickTruckClub.com forums. Someone there usually posts when Ford would schedule orders so everyone knew to check their email for possible scheduling updates. And of course lots of people were disappointed each time they did not get scheduled.

I don't see much dickering on hybrid Mavericks for a while and probably very little on gas ones until inventory starts to build. I paid sticker price for mine, but some dealers were adding $3-10K markups.

Thanks for that information. I did get an email from Ford in Dearborn MI and gave me an Order ID Number for my records in the processes till delivery. It did say within 45 days they will email me with where the process is at. Like I said, if I have to wait a year or better that will be fine with me. My 2008 Colorado is still doing good.

It comes as a four door too, but I had a Jeep Rubicon unlimited which is a four door and I rarely used the back doors. I like the look of the two door. Looks more like the original Broncos from back in the day.

I knew Ford was no longer #1, but no idea how "bad" it was. Oh, well. Lots of Ford trucks running around here in the Heartland. All is right with the world.

I've got a 2016 Toyota Tacoma for sale. New tires and low mileage. I live in western washington. Send me a PM if you want more information.

Good Grief! These stories remind me of a guy I used to work with back in the 1980’s. He had lived in the old Soviet Union. He finally got permission to emigrate and left for the USA. He told stories of being on waiting lists that lasted for months or years for new cars, appliances, etc.

I watched a Deutsche Welle documentary last night, about life in the GDR (East Germany). They interviewed a couple who had been on the list for a new Trabant. They were finally approved 17 years later, by which time they no longer wanted one!

Google how many people own cars in North Korea. 30,000 cars for 25 million people.

I'd like to think this is all gonna shake out in the next year or so. Unless you're in a desperate need of a car, OMY :)coolsmiley:) might just be a good thing at this point. YMMV depending upon specific need.

Ordered a 2024 Maverick. Got the email it is supposed to start in production week of oct 30th. No money down. Most of the 2023s advertised are either ordered models just coming in or a very few that the ordering customer decided not to take delivery. Those will be mostly above MSRP. Order one now and wait or keep searching. Good luck

Looks like there is quite a few of us getting a Maverick. The thing if I don't take when it come in, they said they would be able to sell it right away. I bet they could price it above MRP and get it.

It will be interesting to see if Ford can deliver on the trucks sooner than they have in the pass 2 years.

Well, back in for the day and see I had some great responses.

This morning I actually ordered one, a Maverick plain Jane as I could get. 4 cylinder, AWD, the only thing I splurge on was a tow package for 750$ which everything is built heavier and wiring harness is back there etc..
Total cost about 26700$ and said the longest they have had to wait for an order has been 20 weeks. If it is longer than that it will be fine for me.

Nice deal Street. It's a hot truck, very popular. I've talked with 2 owners in parking lots, both really liked theirs and said they'd definitely buy again. $26,700 For what you paid, you're getting a very nice ride. Let us know how the order process & delivery goes.

I was told on the Bronco I ordered that if I don’t buy it when it’s done, they add $3000-$5000 to the sticker and then sell it to a waiting list.

That is how my wife got her Bronco Sport. The buyer that ordered it didn’t want it, so it was first come, first serve. We got to the dealer, test drove it and had first crack. We had four couples waiting behind us. To the dealers credit, they wheeled and dealed on our trade and Ford gave us $600 in credit to use towards accessories.

Maybe he was thinking trucks...

That is interesting and with the only way to get one now is to order and only so many are allotted to each dealer the way it sounds. A guy that gets one could probably sell it for more than he paid if he wanted too.

I ordered the lariat hybrid so I will have a longer wait than 20 weeks. I really don't expect mine until June or July. Still fine with me.

The pandemic started it all but now that we're here it's no real surprise that Toyota is choosing to keep dealer inventory to the bare minimum. 'Just in Time' is one of their manufacturing mantras. With that philosophy inventory is bad because it cost money to have unsold cars sit on lots. It's much more efficient to find a buyer first and then make the car to order. The downside is the customer must wait months and sometimes years for their cars and dealerships have been known to take financial advantage of customers who demand to have their car now vs. later. IMHO I don't see this way of selling going away. Porsche has done it for years.
