I got Deluxe also. Works fine for me, but every time I go into the area to handle stocks, it asks me if I want to upgrade to Premier.
Has anyone used FreeTaxUSA?
Camelcamelcamel sent me an email this morning:
H&R Block Tax Software Premium & Business 2019
dropped from ~$70 to ~$60 on amazon.com.
Yes, I've used it for many years. I've been very satisfied. Our own taxes are fairly simple but I also used to do my son's and he had Schedule C and self employment taxes. FreeTaxUSA was just fine for his taxes as well. The only time he couldn't use it was when he added his foreign wife and she had income outside the USA.
FreeTaxUSA has been active for a few weeks for 2019 tax year so I put in my preliminary info already. They aren't set up yet for 2019 state taxes, I think that happens in January.
It really is free to file Federal. They make their money by charging for state returns. I've never used them for state returns as our state has online filing for free and it's easy enough to use the state site. But they will show you your state summary so you know where you stand.
I just went to Freetaxusa.com as well as their companion site TaxHawk.com and they both showed as secure on my Chrome browser (there is a padlock on the left of the URL that indicates a secure connection). The issue I had with FreeTaxUSA was the site does not appear to be secure ... i.e., it does not have https://

Thanks! What is the "high balance" amount?
It isn't clear. Every year there are threads here and on bogleheads (and I assume many other forums) about who exactly gets the offer and why.
Rumor in the past was that the magic number is $1M, but ultimately it's a mystery.
If you click on the padlock it tells you that the connection is secure.DOH! .... Yep you are right!
Might be worth calling and asking FIDO Especially if you are close to 1MM. Call a few times and see if you get similar responses.
I have all our dough primarily at VG and I've never heard of them offering anything for tax returns...but I am going to call and ask. I noticed this year the Downloadable TeuboTax requires a license key. Makes me wonder if this key is a single MAC address bound key or if it can be run across multiple pcs with the same key.
You can install the software on 5 different computers.
On the first part, yes... I efile 5 returns each year. You can prepare more and print and file... just limited to 5 electronic filing. It also says you can make 5 Federal e-files, so I'm assuming you can file five different returns with one license?
I wonder if that also means you can download 5 different states if on 5 different computers?
Has anyone found the Fidelity free Turbo Tax offer for 2019?
chatted with our fido rep last week and could not get anything specific.
