How Are Threads Picked for Summary Page?

When I access early-retirement.org , I get a one page of recent threads which, until recently, I had assumed were the most recent threads. In recent weeks, I had the feeling that not much was going on since the same topics showed up (seemingly, at least) and ones on the bottom seemed to have the same count (replies). Now I think I'm discovering that the threads on the first page may be recent, but they aren't necessarily the most recent on all forums.......e.g. today on the "summary" page, there are/is at least one from 2/5 while, in the forums themselves, there are today's threads from
Health and Other forums that either don't show up on the summary page or
are below the 2/5 entry on that page. Today is 2/7:confused: So.....how are the threads selected for that summary page?

Also I can't really be sure but I've had the impression in the recent past that the summary page looks different w/ different topics when I've gone to the library just a few hrs after viewing it at home. Home is a Macbook and library is a PC.

I've wondered the same thing....

The other thing is, (thought I was going crazy at first), when I wrote the question earlier this AM, the summary page was green and ?? (some other color) and had no dates. Now it is blue and has dates and has health and other topics that weren't on the green page.

At the bottom of the page on the left, there is a choice between “--Early Retirement v. 1.0” and “--Early Retirement v. 2.0.” 2.0 is a default (green) but some of us don’t like change and continue to choose version 1.0 (blue). Near the top of the page, you can choose, “new posts” to get the latest ones. I don’t know much about how the computer arranges the page but I’m sure an administrator will come along and decipher that for you.

The portal page displays threads that have the most recent posts. The threads may be old (started long ago) but have had a new response added in the last few hours. The page is updated automatically each time you refresh.

Janet........I guess my observations don't agree w/ your statements but maybe it's just me and my Mac. e.g. at the last look v1 and v2 looked pretty much the same on portal page (not always true) but the last entry was thread by brewer about PenFed w/ last entry 2/4 in both versions.......but nowhere on either portal page was this thread which obviously was more recent nor anything about a glucose thread which also was recent. Seems to me that what's included is somewhat random which is what made me think not much was happening recently. Oh well, probably not important to anyone except the owner who presumably makes more if you linger longer. Might just be me and my Mac but it also happens at the library PC.........maybe it's just me.
