Two - I didn't need to show any doctor's prescription in order to get the shot.
Pharmacies in one state said I did need a prescription. In another I didn't. So I guess it's a state thing. My PCP was happy to give me one, no charge.

I also called the local CVS pharmacy and the woman there told me they won't have any Shingrix until next January. She wasn't aware if CVS charges an additional fee to issue a prescription

Already had shingles, so vaccine was too late for me.
Shingles can recur. You can ask your doctor whether you should still get the vaccine.

My understanding is once you’ve had shingles your more likely to have more episodes, so it’s even more important to get the shot. At least that’s what my dr said. I don’t think the big thing is it makes you less likely to developers post hepatic neuralgia
Interesting. My doctor said if you get it once you're less likely to have a recurrence.
"Unfortunately, it is possible to get shingles twice (or more). In fact, of the one in three people who experience shingles, women are at a higher risk of developing it a second time than men are. The longer you experience severe pain after shingles (called post-herpetic neuralgia), the higher your chances of a shingles recurrence."

As for side effects the first made me lethargic for 24 hours, like being stuck in second gear with a couple of spark plugs out.
The second shot was worst than the first. Felt awful and actually had shivering that night and crawled under the covers for a couple of hours.
If it’s any consolation they say that the stronger the reaction the better the protection.
It still beats getting the shingles though.
And had not thought of Costco - that might be a better alternative as it requires a membership and maybe less of a senior population since they are not as interested in buying bulk.
