What We're Making

Smoked beef ribs. Used a rub made from stuff found in the kitchen cabinet, mainly Atkins bar-b-q rub+pork/chicken rub+garlic powder. Smoked for 1.5 hours with a few wet oak logs on charcoal. Then added a brown sugar rub and wrapped in foil with some apple juice poured into the foil packets the ribs were wrapped in. Put in the oven at 350 to finish cooking for 2.5 hours.

They came out tender, moist and delicious!View attachment 34430

Mmm... They look yummy!

made my first face masks...one for DH and one for me. Repurposed an experiment in free curve piecing that has been tacked up in my art studio for months (we'll see how it fares with a lot of washing)

Not catching any fish lately, but made a fishing rod holder out of leftover scraps.

I made loquat liqueur today. We had a bumper crop this year and they don't keep well at all. It makes wonderful jelly, but this is so much easier. It'll be ready to taste in a few days and ready to bottle in a week. I haven't made this before, so I made a small batch.

Great another Chinese concoction! :)
I have done that with dried Mandarin (Chinese, again) oranges slices from Costco and store bought Grappa. ( No, I don't have a still.) Pretty good. I'll try the blackberries some time.

Hope everyone had a great Easter.
As no gathering allowed it looks like all our Easter cookies will accompany my coffee for next 2 weeks :) I am not complaining though

Very nice! That is what I need to build. I have them setting the corners and hung on walls.

That would be a great organizer for me at the ranch also.

The Japanese plum liqueur was a fail. The recipe worked really well with blackberries and blueberries. Oh well.

What went wrong? What was the recipe that worked with blackberries and blueberries? A friend of DW's used to give us a small bottle of plum brandy from time to time, really good stuff. I think all she did was soak the plums in the brandy, and strain, but I don't really know.

A ripe, really ripe plum is a wonderful thing.

It just wasn't as flavorful as it should have been. The recipe is 1 pound of fruit, 1/4 cup each of water and sugar. Cook, mash, cool, add 3 cups vodka and let it sit for a week. Strain and drink. Blueberries and blackberries were spectacular. Winemaker said pectin enzymes would have helped.

It wasn't a total fail. I made a vodka tonic with it and it was good. It just wasn't bursting with flavor like the other two were.

Well, this is not 'making' something, more of what we did. We turned the coat closet in our foyer (close to the kitchen) into a food panty. I can't take credit for that idea as I remember a forum member saying a few months ago that's what he/she did.

The built-in shelves at the top were already there. Instead of installing more shelves, we got a rack and it works well. It's small (there are just two of us) but handy. :)

You are a very handy and crafty man, Ronstar. Looks very nice like usual.

Ronstar the joint on the front looks amazing! Love the fancy grain too.

DW's sourdough output for today.....we're scheduled to drop off two loaves for the granddaughters.......I tried to convince her that the loaves were inferior products, and that it would be an insult to offer them to others, so to preserve credibility we should retain them.

Didn't work.

LOL!
Oh they look so good!

WOW! That looks very good.
