Walking around at 6am we met a neighbor who left his trash out overnight. The bears had been there, he wasn't amused. There was a bunch of mule deer out, including one bouncing doe with her fawn. The fawn hasn't figured out how to bounce yet.

Wanting to go for a hike we went east. I couldn't understand the GPS telling me it took an hour and a half to drive twenty miles. Guess who's correct? Amazing drive through miles of Aspens, actually we were in the same area last Autumn, it looked different.

We abandoned the hike for the long drive back. Stopped for lunch at a place along the San Juan. It was upper 70's outside and awesome. Tubers have taken over the river now, the water must be warmer. Going back to both places with more time.

It was cool and rainy on this side of the Continental Divide as it has been all week. I finished painting the side of the garage today. Did some of the painting while it was sprinkling, but it did not get on the fresh paint. A little touch up and then time to move the scaffolding to the back of the house. Here are a couple of pictures I took earlier this morning before the rain clouds moved in.

Where's the small garage door for the [-]golf cart[/-] Polaris RZR?

That is the side garage door on the lower level. It is 3 inches shorter than the smaller door on the upper level. (It is shorter because I did a lousy job of adding the foundation height to the garage door height when I framed that wall.) Fortunately, garage doors can be ordered at 3 inch increments so nobody knows but you and me. :greetings10: BTW, I call the lower garage my toy storage area!

In software that's often called a feature.

Today I was at a car dealership . They were trying to sell me an extended warranty .The salesman said "These are good for ten years " . I said "Are you serious I may not be alive in ten years " and He said " Who will inherit the car ? " and I said " Frankly I don't give a damn " . I have waited years to use that line and it felt great .

You should have told him to buy the insurance policy and you would leave the car to him in your will.

Nice house @Hermit!

Today we are cleaning up our living family room area. We need to make room for Pottery Barn's delivery of our new couch next week. My daughter is coming home tomorrow to help move the couch to a different area. Delivery man will not do that. Then we can vacuum the area before new furniture comes in. I also scheduled Salvation Army to come and pick up our old couch, but it's not going to be until August. So in the mean time, we will have to look be with two big couches in the area.

I am up at my high-country home to continue to work on the deck rebuild that I left unfinished last summer. Had to take a long break midday because the sun is so intense on this south-facing deck. It may be a while before I finish it to take a photo to show off to keep up with the DIY'ers here. :)

I can surf the Web for a bit because my data plan on the phone still shows a few GB's being free, and the monthly cycle ends in a few days. Then, I may be incommunicado while I am up here. Need to preserve those precious bytes to check up on my stocks.

Looking good. The picture makes it look as if the house is pretty much at the top of a hill. I guess you planned it that way for the snow season. Easier to get a start going downhill!

My next door neighbor stopped over to tell me that a huge dead tree between our houses was ready to fall on my workshop. And then she added that the tree was on our property. So she wanted me to pay to have it taken down. I noticed the tree some time ago, but figured that I would rebuild my workshop bigger if the tree fell on it.

So I went to my former workplace, grabbed some survey equipment, and surveyed the line through the woods. Sure enough the base of the tree is 7' inside our property.

I better have it taken down, because it could fall on their workshop if it falls to the south. And I can tell that it is making them nervous. Its inaccessible from my side of the line, but they will allow a tree guy to bring in a bucket truck on their side to take it down. Sigh - another unexpected expense.

Ronstar, you definitely want to get that tree down before it falls. There could be liability concerns too, if it fell on one of your neighbors (or their gardener, visitors, pets, etc).

I spent considerable money having several large, rotting water oaks removed from my property a year and a half ago. These were some of the largest trees around... utterly huge, and full of termites and bees, and were starting to fall apart from their own weight. One of them was dropping HUGE branches (the size of most trees) into Frank's back yard. We were worried that one might hit his lawn guy.

I am glad my trees are gone. Once that tree is gone, you will never have to worry about it again.

I think this goes into the category of "irregular large expenses", like when the AC craters or the roof wears out. I guess they are never fun but it's nice to have them done with.

P.S. - - those bucket trucks might put really deep ruts in their yard, like they did mine. If it is too bad then possibly you would have to have some dirt brought in for their yard or something. :banghead:

Thanks for the advice. Once I saw that the neighbor lady was worried, I figured that I needed to get this done. Definitely don't need the liability. DW called a tree guy for an estimate. I'm calling another tomorrow.

You got rid of yours just in time since it was dropping huge branches. Mine hasn't dropped a branch yet, but its close.

Ronstar, Our neighbor has a large, multi-trunk, silver maple at the back of their property. Their backyard backs up to the side of our property and the back of our house. The tree loses branches every rain storm. Don't know whose insurance company would pay if it hits our house but would rather be proactive and have the tree taken down. I've talked to the neighbor several times over the past 2 years about the tree and they say they want to take it down. We offered to pay for half of the removal fee, got to be over $1000. Neighbor keeps saying he'll get some quotes. I thought he was putting it off due to the cost of removal. Two weeks ago, a large branch came down on our side and my husband told the neighbor that we would pay the entire bill for the removal of the tree. Neighbor is protesting that we shouldn't pay for the removal and he's going to get quotes for the removal. My husband has been sick and for some reason it's really bothering him. I'm stuck with my husband complaining about the tree and nice, young neighbors that seem to be procrastinating.

The nice young neighbours may not have the money to pay for tree removal. Are there any municipal ordinances that you can use to facilitate this?
