Update: it worked! I transferred a photo from my phone to my computer. It is the 'Best Buy Essentials' brand.
Now that you have one you know works, buy another as a spare! These things sometimes do go bad.

Hmmmm OP said he has Nokia 2780 flip phone.I do not do a cable transfer. I move my photos to iCloud via an app on my phone and then download to my computer from there.

I was responding to the iCloud comment above. I took a quick look. It doesn't appear the phone has any ability to sync directly from the phone to iCloud. So, you would probably have to use workarounds to get the photos to iCloud with something else. Not sure if OP actually has much if any data either, he doesn't have wifi. I think his cable method is working for him, though.Just because it is a flip phone doesn't mean it can't do things like send photos to the cloud (or transfer over Bluetooth):
