After however many years of putting it off, I finally downloaded Steam and Origin, a couple of the biggest PC game hosting sites. It coincided with some really nice 75% off sales between them and the one I already have, so my gaming library has grown by about a dozen games..

Coincidence! I too just downloaded Steam about a week ago and am deeply into Cities: Skyline. I love the complexity of it and am having fun learning how hard it is to plan a city well and keep everything in balance.

Got my free Parks Canada pass in the mail today. What a nice gesture on their part! Applied for it about five weeks ago, but it's good for the rest of this year. Makes me want to get up there and use it!

We went to "The Springs" today. It's local day, eight bucks apiece, we splurged for lockers too.

It was sunny and 37° F. Perfect weather for a nice dunk. We were in at least ten different pools, one was 110°F! One partially in the San Juan River. It was marked at 103°F, sandy bottom with multiple cold and hot spots. I walked out and it got very cool until my foot dropped into a very, very hot spot!

One young man jumped in the river three times, there was ice on the banks! He said it was pretty shocking but after being in a106° pool it was OK. Many friendly folks were there. One gal was very outgoing, talkative. I later learned she was drinking THC.;)

While it may have been a little cool it felt great to go out and get some sun.

Yesterday was a good day. We went out for retiree lunch with a couple I worked with. Very fun and nice to get out and socialize. I did a bit of work from home on the couch. Cooked scrambled eggs with ham and cheese for a light supper.

Today - slept in til 6. I had my coffee and made sausage and muffins for breakfast. Today is one of my yoga days so that is always a good thing! And the sun is shining here in Iowa with a high of 55 today.

I am going to hang sheets out on the line to dry a bit later.

Bought a new 5th wheel today -

We decided to downsize to a slightly smaller trailer but with more bells & whistles, like an auto-leveling system. The smaller size will make it easier to tow and should allow us to get into some older parks with smaller RV spots.

Oooooh. What make and model if you care to share? If not, no worries.

Went to see a new specialist doc today, had to (of course) fill out pages of paperwork, most with the same damn information as others. Got to a field that said "Work Phone:", just grinned and left it blank. Further down, "Employer:". I wanted to write "See 'Name:' above", but just wrote "Retired".

When I have to fill out forms that ask for 'Occupation', I write 'Unoccupied'.

We are vacationing for a week in Puerto Rico. Today we walked on the beach and sat by the pool. While we were in for lunch we watched a weather forecast for the Northeast US. It's doubly nice to be in the tropics when there is snow forecast for home!

Woke up this morning and realized I received a big dose of solar yesterday. I did burn, DW has fairer skin and didn't get as much, thankfully.

We went out for lunch today, we both had a peanut butter stout, great stuff. We have leftover beer battered fries. They will be fried in bacon grease tomorrow morning as hash browns with our B&E.

High winds all day today. Had a large pine tree start to uproot and blow down on the driveway (and utility pole). Decided to get the chainsaw out and drop the tree before mother nature uprooted it and made an even bigger mess. Got the tree down, but had to drop it on the driveway, so I had to cut it up and haul it off the road. Just glad I didn't have that job waiting for me when I got home from work.

Hopped on Rita and rode to Modesto and enjoyed a nice dim-sum lunch. Hit traders on the way home and walked the dog. Whacked down all my weeds and paid the bills.

Had a nice "solar day" too, ran the meter down 15 kWh. This is going to be my first "negative" monthly electric bill - :)

Snap! I got mine today as well as some Burpee Seeds. Time to start planting.

Today I took my husband to get some blood test done. Check to see his A1C as well as some thryroid problems. I want a baseline, I don't know his numbers at all. I only have a copy of his blood work 20 years ago. Afterward, we went to a French bakery and had breakfast.

In the afternoon, kid #2 came home unexpectedly and wanted our MacBook Pro. Hers doesn't work and she has two weeks left at this quarter. My husband has been busy fixing her old laptop.
Then a salelady from a cabinet place came to do some measurement of our tech area/sewing place. Finally after 4 years of buying this new house, we're finishing this small place.

Filed my nails while reading an ebook on my tablet. Wow...I can still multi-task.

Busy day of work and paperwork during the day. About 5:30 the package of 118 quail eggs we ordered to try hatching arrived in the mail, so we all poked through them for a few minutes and then I was off to attend a swarm prevention class at the botanic gardens since I had an abject failure at doing so last spring.

I usually put Retired Professional Engineer. Depending on who will be reading it, I sometimes put Retired CEO or Private Portfolio Manager. 14 years ago, I would sometimes just put Unemployed!

I have often been pleasantly surprised to find that leaving spaces blank on those forms is perfectly fine.

Not as impressive as a quail coop, but I decided to allocate some time to a non-programming hobby project. I bought this for my dad a very long time ago and now that he's gone, my mom asked if I wanted it. It had sat unused for decades, but needed just a little TLC to get it sea worthy again. Of course I went overboard (hehe!) and put in a handful of modifications to make it better than the 'stock' version. The picture isn't my actual vessel, but I'll try to remember to take a picture when I sail it.

I took it out today and it worked pretty good. Wouldn't come about through the eye of the wind, so had to jibe, though. Apparently by leaning the mast back a couple of degrees, that will be fixed. Quite a bit of water in the hull when I got done. I'll need to investigate that.

Today my husband and I played 1.5 hours of badminton. We did play together once, but we didn't win. However we didn't get hurt either. My husband is notorious for diving after the bird, the coach warned me multiple times.
After lunch, we are both trying to fix my daughter's MacBook Pro. Funny enough it seems to be working at the moment. Except yesterday my kid was in doubt at us both engineers, I said it could be a heat sink problem, the fans were running. But my daughter said the Apple guy did try a few things and it didn't work. Today he removed the connection to the fan and lord and behold it began working. It seems like there is bug in the firmware, that has to do with overheating. It does put a smile on my husband, he is a DIY, he said he now can apply for a job at Apple. This is why retirement is great. One has time to tinker around.

I was up even earlier than usual today because older son had to be at school by 6:20am - it's the start of a 3 day FRC robotics competition and the bus was due to leave to the event at 6:30am.

Came home, vacuumed the massive amounts of dog fur - spring has arrived and our dog has decided to shed full time. Also folded and put away a few loads of laundry.

Had lunch with the woman I normally beach walk with in the morning (skipped today because of robotics drop off). Enjoyed a very nice outdoor meal in the 75 degree warmth.

Came home just in time to leave to go get younger son from school.

Taking a short break before I pick up older son from the fairgrounds where the robotics competition is happening.

Went hiking today because they are calling for snow for the next 4 days.

Worked on taxes this morning, then went at the 4 backyard beehives. It is awfully early as the calendar goes, but spring seems to be early and I am trying to head off the horrific swarming I had last year. One of the hives seems to be sputtering (although I spotted the queen). The other three are booming already, so I did some rearranging and donated some resources from the strongest hive to the weak sister. I will need to make some splits on the early side if I am going to control swarming. I have no place to put the resulting hives, so I will probably see if I can sell some nucs locally after I split. Probably worth a solid $150 a pop or more.

We had a parent-teacher conference for DD2's second trimester results, then came home and messed with quail (cleaned the cage, weighed them, then set up the incubator with batch 2). We will head out for dinner soon as a reward for good grades.

I did some outside work today. Stuff I have been avoiding since last November. It was nice to be outside without a jacket on.

Not a good day.

The undergraduate class I teach has a mandatory attendance requirement. I caught some students signing in for students who were absent. This breaches the academic honesty requirements of the university.

I know I should report it but I'm inclined to just tell them not to do it again.
