Try the north entrance to Crater Lake sometime!
Same story.
Yep
We went there in mid may and the road was still snowed in. Went to south entrance and just before the lodge the snow pack was still about 12 ft thick.

I never was a "horsey set" person. I don't think a saddle would be too good on my back. Will be BTD soon on specialist for lower back issues.

Ya, just put it off, when your shoulders and knees start hurting, you will forget about your back pain. It took me 11 years, YMMV.

Awesome pics! I can't wait to go to Glacier. But wish my plan was better. There was only 1 night of lodge/hotel openings available in park for the entire summer 2022. So we are doing 3 days at Glacier - 2 at Columbia Falls west of Glacier, 1 night at Many Glacier Lodge.

Taking the red bus tour day 1; driving, exploring and a little hiking along Going to the Sun Road day 2; and hiking out of Many Glacier Lodge day 3. I might try to add another day at the end by booking a hotel east of glacier.

We stayed 9 nights at 3 locations, all on the eastern side. I recommend the Highline Trail and Hidden Lake, both from the Logan Pass Visitor's Center..

I live in Salt Lake city. Rented an airbnb in old Town scottsdale for 4 weeks..just got back. Dining out and bar hopping on many nights. Also lots of mountain biking and hiking camelback mountain. Already rented a place for next year.

We stopped in at a Relax The Back store, local mini-chain I think, which was having a 20% off sale. I blew $1200 on one of their desk chairs, which should be ready for pick-up sometime next month.

We have a Relax the Back store here and they are certainly a BTD destination. I have my eye on one of their zero gravity chairs. The nice ones run into the $4K range but man are they comfortable.

Maybe this will be the year.

We stayed at a VRBO just outside Glacier on the west side; not to far from the distillery. It was perfect, away from the crowds, 5 minutes from the park.

Just ordered a Polaris Ranger UTV with snow plow and enclosed cab. If I have to plow snow, I’m going to do it without freezing.

Very nice! I have been contemplating one of those for years. I have been around them a lot but not much when the snow gets deep. The ones the crew had were track machines. I did see a guy move snow with one yesterday and it was impressive.
I think I need one with tracks to get back into the cabin which is over a mile in. I then have to walk into the cabin because of the terrain.

You do need one to periodically inspect the ranch. And they can be outfitted with tracks.

So now I'm thinking of replacing the breakfast room, kitchen, family room, laundry room, 1/2 bath with the bamboo. It says it's warranted 40 years residential use but it is not engineered bamboo. So I don't know how it stands up against water. Here's my problem. My ex son-in-law, father to 2 of my grandkids, puts in floors. I can buy the the material at a relatively good price and he'd want me to do that so its just a labor charge. But the last time I asked him for an estimate on something he was twice the next guy. I could say because his father of 2 of the kids that the money filters down to help them. Except here's the problem. One of those kids is 20 and sleeps here almost every night. The other 1 is 15 going on 16 and has moved in during the school year. And I get no money for them. So do I let him bid and tell him that he will be bidding against at least 2 other people?
Starts today and yes, he's doing it. He rebuilt the entryway and its beautiful, fixed a walkway that someone else did wrong, will remove broken backyard play stuff (trampoline, basketball hoop, basically everything except fort), and was the best bid.

This is just one room. 20220115_143759.jpg
Says it'll take most of 3 days. Including replacing a pocket door that I HATE 20220115_160504.jpgFINALLY I'll be onto new furniture for that room. I think that'll be pricey too

Ah well, only live once. At least it's not as much as a 44' boat

Went to Ace Hardware and got an Ego 24" self propelled snow blower. I had the non self propelled but is was too much like work. This new one is the bee's knees. I already have a bunch of Ego batteries so just needed the snow blower.

Hmmm.
It takes a fair amount of power to blow tons of snow over the course of an hour, which is typical for what I do with my Ariens (10 HP engine) after an 8"+ snowfall.

Unclear how many amp-hours of battery that translates to but I guess you'll find out...

Here's what I'd like to be blowing my dough on...

- Nice restaurant meals
- Travel
- Tickets to plays and sporting events

Due to a certain current public health situation, here's what I will be blowing my dough on between now and March (when I plan to emerge from my coccoon, based on what I think the timing of widespread availability of the new Pfizer antivirals will be)

- Instacart delivery fees and jacked-up delivery prices

You can start here:

According to this converter, 10 HP = about 7.35 KW.

YMMV

We rented a private lodge about 10 miles of Klamath Falls 3 years ago for DW's reunion with her siblings, siblings' kids and our kids and grandkid. It had been a regular lodge but the owner was getting old, so we had to cook our own meals in the commercial kitchen. I think there were 7 or 8 bedrooms. After COVID, the owner may not be renting it anymore, but it was 15-20 miles from Crater Lake. I went flyfishing in a couple places about 5 miles away. It was a good time and not that expensive, considering the number of people (12 or 13). We hiked up at Crater Lake a couple of days.

Is Glacier NP visit a BTD?

Maybe the lodges are overpriced?

I was looking at visiting Crater Lake and there is one lodge there, probably an exclusive concessionaire.

Prices are high, especially with view of the lake but the lodge gets poor reviews for comfort and cleanliness.

Main advantage is you have to drive some distance away from the lake to stay overnight in another accommodation because of the exclusivity.

It's not a 3 day job (stated it was but that was before dry rot & needing to level part of 1 floor). Lost access to 1/3 house. Having 13 for dinner tomorrow night so I decided to have Chipotle cater it. Got the burrito box. We're low key .... that works

Planning for my late spring project of landscaping the front yard to lose most of the grass for a variety of native plantings/flowers (I hate grass--it does not grow well here and most of it died in our drought last summer). I've got a very good designer and we're in the process of decisions. Very nice thing to do on a freezing cold day.

My beloved Aeron office chair broke today, and I can't see any way to fix it.

They have a good warranty at 12 years, but mine was 23 years old. So I ordered a new one. Don't have the records, but IIRC it's just about twice what I paid for the first one. Still worth it, though.

DW and I spent $360 last night for an early BD dinner. WE had a bottle of Napa Cab, NZ salmon and pork belly for shared appetizers, 2 16oz American Waygu ribeyes with some roasted Brussel Sprouts, Garnished with some foiegras for me and mushrooms for the birthday girl. Yum!

Finally found a 4wheeler that was in my price range... $2500 now subtracted from savings
