What "old" series are you watching?

I really miss Johnny Carson. His show was the best! The late night shows currently are totally unwatchable.
You probably know this but there are tons of clips of his shows on youtube. Rickles is my fav. :) Love how he rips on Johnny, but Johnny gets his shots in too.

Lots of my favorites have been named a few I have not noticed are Corner Gas, great Canadian comedy. Murdoch Mysteries, it is still being filmed but their are about 13 seasons in the can already. Sliders, Home Improvement, Night Court, Pretender, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Highlander and WKRP in Cincinnati are others on my watch list.

Now for the how. I have Netflix and standard Hulu and free stuff on RoKu everything else is over the air with an outside antenna. I have one of my computers setup with a quad tuner and use Plex software. Lifetime subscription to a TV guide on Plex runs around $100 but they put it on sale all the time, I think I paid $69. Takes a little time to learn the software but it allows you to create a large library over time. You can set it up to record all episodes of a show without re-recording shows already recorded. I setup a show and forget it for awhile, some shows are on so often you can get all the episodes in a month or two others take longer. I have learned not to delete shows until I have stopped recording the show so it doesn't re-record shows I have watched. You can also setup different libraries to store the shows, I have a Current, Old and Music TV library as well as a Movie library. Plex lets you skip commercials depending on how your streaming it to your TV. All this does take lot of disc space but large discs are relatively cheap now. Plex streams of the internet and can stream to multiple devices, including, Roku, tablets, smart phones and other devices that can connect to your house internet.

Sorry for the Plex sales pitch but I have been using it for a little over a year and it works great. And yes I watch to much TV, more this year.

Combat! starring Vic Morrow & Rick Jason

I’m on a one-man protest against pay-TV like HBO, Showtime, Netflix, etc. Instead, I have Internet and a Roku-TV device so I’ve been binge watching lots of old TV series through Roku. On YouTube, I re-watched the epic TV mini-series “The Winds of War” and “War and Remembrance” by Herman Wouk; and James Clavell's "Shogun". Currently, I’m watching “Combat!” starring Vic Morrow and Rick Jason. I’m in the middle of season 3. “Combat!” was one of my favorite TV shows growing up and some episodes bring back memories of having watched it when I was 9-10 years old. After I finish watching all episodes of “Combat!”, I’ve got the TV mini-series “Hornblower” all queued up on my YouTube playlist.

The King of Queens

My favorite comedy TV series:

1950s: "I Love Lucy"
1960s: "The Andy Griffith Show"
1970s: "All in the Family"
1980s: "Cheers"
1990s: "Seinfeld"
2000s: "The King of Queens"

We watch Johnny Carson reruns on Xumo app on our Samsung TV. It's free but you have to watch occasional commercial.

I been watching an old TV series called Naked City, it was the first TV crime cop show to be filmed on location on the streets of New York City. 1961 to 1963 It's streaming on Tubi TV for free.

Here’s a blast from the past...L.A. Law! Used to be one of my favorites amongst a Thursday evening lineup of favorites - Cosby, Family Ties, Cheers, and Wings. I had not been able to find L.A. Law for years, but lately noticed it was available on Amazon Prime.

The interesting thing I’m noticing is that many of the criminal and civil situations presented on the show are just as relevant today as they were 30 years ago. It’s as if we haven’t made any progress at all in areas like law enforcement, divorce, police brutality, etc. Still, I’m enjoying seeing these episodes again!

We've been watching Star Trek Enterprise. I like Scott Bakula in that as well.

We've given up on current TV, I think...

Oh - Watched a few episodes of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, but didn't continue. DW didn't find it as funny as I did.

Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Outer Limits (both 60s and 90s version), Night Gallery. These have episodes I can watch multiple times.
I'll never forget the Night Gallery one about ear wigs. Joanna Pettit was stunning.

When I need a laugh, I'll pull up the Three Stooges. There hilarious and each episode is less then 15 minutes long!

DH also loves Three Stooges. I hate them--dumb slapstick hitting each other on the head or slapping faces. What is the point? I think it is a male/female divide. Many of DH's male friends love the Stooges. But I don't know any females that like the Stooges.

My wife and I have been belly laughing watching Cheers on Hulu. We were busy raising young kids when it was airing and we only had so many VCR tapes to time-shift favorite shows so while we were well aware of Cheers, there were many, many episodes that we missed.
The first 5 seasons with Shelly Long as Diane Chambers were absolutely brilliant, witty comedy. Coach was wonderful but Woody stepped right in and owned the role as well. We are now plowing thru season 7 and Kirstie Alley can be annoying at times but listening to Cliff and Norm still cracks us up. Another observation is how different times were when Sam basically sexually harasses Diane and Rebecca 5-10 times a show and that was "normal" back then. Oh well we've come a long way. Cheers!

So many wonderful and familiar series mentioned here that I will not repeat. I have seen my share of these and more, and loved them all. Have not seen mentioned the brilliant "ER" (so many future stars), "Boston Legal" (said to be William Shatner's finest role) and "The Dick Cavett Show."

Wanted to repeat the shout-out for Plex.... DS maintains a massive library on Plex from which he transfers whatever I want onto an external hard drive, that I then stream onto my TV. Between that, Netflix, Amazon and library DVDs, I am well-provisioned for the pandemic. Oh, I love to read as well. Happy viewing!

We rewatched the whole Battlestar series. It was so good to binge watch it a few at a time. Easier to remember what was going on when there were no long breaks.

We loved it.
The Battle Star Galactica series that had the cylons in it is good. Worth a 2nd complete watching.

That reminds me, back in the late 60s early 70s, cable TV was speading in our area. I lived close to a drive in movie theatre, their marque read, "Save Free TV"

I went through Cheers over the summer and early fall. One interesting thing I heard about the show was after the first season Cliff made up all the arcane trivia "facts" that he recited as gospel truth. The writers gave him the stuff for the first season but after that he came up with it on his own.

Currently watching Burn Notice.

Yes, this is an awesome show. A cocktail mix of James Bond, MacGyver, and Mission Impossible, with a con artist vibe and gobs of humor thrown in. I LOVED this show.

Another vote for Leave it to Beaver.

I think I have a crush on Wally...
