New Shingrx Shingles Vaccine

Funny, after reading all the above posts...I had both Shingrex shots this year and didn't have any arm soreness or feel bad from either one. Maybe I was given placebos....

I'm thinking some of the soreness is from the needle stick. The young lady that administered mine brought out the 1 1/2" model - she used most of it. I don't have much adipose tissue and she did not find the meatiest part of the deltiod. Ouch!

Oh good! I'll stop reading now and go get my shots.

This gives me hope! I'm getting my first shot next month.

Interesting: DW and I were arm-sore after #1 but felt really down after #2 (even though they are the same stuff.) We felt bad for 2 or 3 weeks! Weak, listless, pains (of aging) were amplified, etc.) YMMV

It took me about a week to fully recover from both.

Had soreness for 2 days from both shots. Small price to pay.
Important to get it. Anyone who knows someone with a bad case of shingles would be running to get them.

After much wrangling I got my first shot a few weeks ago. There has been much confusion regarding insurance coverage. Last year if I got the shot my BCBS plan would only cover if provided by my in network PCP. However his office does not provide this service due to the high cost of expired vaccines.

I looked the Shingrx up under my drug plan and just recently found a co-pay of $0. So, armed with this data and GoodRx coupon just in case I went to my local pharmacy listed on my plan. Sure enough no cost. This was not the case when I first researched the subject.

Either way IMHO it's a mess. Last year I went through a ton of work to get my colonoscopy covered as a preventative screening after a history of polyps and a tumor. I guess an advantage of ER is that I have the time to spend making the most of my 20k per year retiree plan. However, I must note that DW and I will not forego any necessary medical treatments due to cost.

I got mine a week ago. Arm was sore for 3 days and I napped endlessly all weekend, which is so unlike me. Who know the shingles shot was a cure for insomnia?
My doctor is also recommending Shingrix for me as of this year, but a colleague of mine had a reaction similar to yours, and in addition some fever for 3-4 days and bad body aches. So I am trying to time mine so that it would fall just before Thanksgiving, and then skip the turkey for this year and just nap.

Had shot #2 two days ago, two months after #1. Breezed through #1 with only mild malaise but this time it was a different story. It felt like I had come down with the flu: feverish, shivers, and body and joint aches. Getting better today. Arm soreness both times but I expect that with vaccines.

Now I am protected against shingles!

I think I'll be 54 when we get a covid vaccine and I was thinking of getting shingrx at the same time instead of waiting for 55 but these bad stories make me want to wait. Imagine getting flu-like symptoms from both vaccines at the same time.

I'm a little leary of getting both at the same time, Yes, I know multiple vaccines are often given. I'm even concerned about getting it with Covid around.
That said, I'll be getting it soon. I'm 65, it's past time.

I don't know that I would get both shots at the same time.
A few weeks to a month apart would be my choice of timing. But, I would get both. Shingles is a pit of suffering from what I have seen and heard. Covid - well, my guess is that our ability to move about freely would be hindered without a vaccine.

I didn't make it clear, I meant, both the flu and shingix shot at the same time.

Had my second shot yesterday. So far, my reaction is the same as the first one - no reaction at all.

I spoke too soon. About two hours after I posted, I suddenly felt as if I would freeze to death. I put on extra clothes, then laid on the couch with several blankets and two cats. I still could not warm up. When I finally could get back up off the couch in the evening, my whole body hurt. But I felt fine the next day.

I had very similar effects, but they lasted a tad longer. Apparently, feeling like crap for a day (twice) is way better than the alternative.

I checked Good RX and it looks like we can get the vaccine medication for $155 each at Costco, but I believe there is a charge for the injection. Does anyone know what that cost is?

Are you on Medicare? We were not when we got the vaccine and our regular ACA type insurance covered it so there was no charge at Costco.

No, Costco did not charge us anything additional for administering the vaccine. I’m not sure whether using GoodRX makes a difference.

I've never heard of a charge for actually giving the shot. I have only ever paid a single charge (for any vaccine shot) which included the shot itself. Last Shingrx one was at a CVS pharmacy (although we still call it Longs here in the Islands.) YMMV

I got it this afternoon, the first shot.

My doctor had suggested this and the pneumococcal vaccine. But Safeway said I would require an Rx for the latter until I was 65.

So I got the Shingrix. Really felt that needle but forgot about it for a couple of hours and then took a nap. When I woke up, my deltoid was very sore.

No fever, just a little woozy but that may have just been grogginess from the nap.

Now the soreness has subsided a few hours later even more.

Will be glad to get this over with in a couple of months.

I got my second Shingrix shot yesterday. No cost but a pretty sore shoulder overnight.

+1. Still a little sore but not enough to be bothersome.

Actually got a bit of body ache in the morning.

NOt heavy, no fever.

Ugh! Second shot was worse than the first. Woke up shivering so hard the bed was shaking. Couldn't get warm. Have felt crappy all day and still cold. Thankfully I'm done with shingrix now.
