What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

USPS rant again. The Amazon package that I'd ordered and was shipped on December 6 showed up today. January 18, six weeks later.

I've had orders from China delivered faster than that.

Now I have to contact Amazon and/or the cc company to reverse the refund I got when it didn't show up.

I *really* want to visit Germany during Oktoberfest. Movies need more of this and less empty cups, IMHO.

BTW, this is exactly how I drink my colonoscopy preparation. I've talked about this before. And I'm not joking!

[...] I mailed the check on 12/14 and it finally cleared on 01/11, almost a whole month. This event gave us the incentive to finally set up online bill paying.
Good luck with that! I think it works nicely when everything is going smoothly.

That said, I have had online bill paying for all my utilities, for 21 years. After Katrina, the cable company and a few others decided to just SHUT OFF our online bill pay so that we were in as much difficulty as those mailing their payments. They said we had to show up in person to pay (swim there, I suppose?). I was furious, as you might imagine. For some reason they thought they were doing us a favor. So anyway, my point is that you just can't win.

I started selling my football card collection on eBay approximately 8 months ago.
I've seen a major spike in the number of items damaged by the USPS, delivered late, or not at all in the past 1.5 months.

Couldn't care less VS could care less

Merriam-Webster treats the phrases couldn't care less and could care less as synonymous, both meaning "not concerned or interested at all." "Couldn't care less" is the older and more obvious phrase grammatically, but it has been confused for so long that both are now defined

It's not that hard!

How can they mean the same thing? The next thing they will clam is that two positives make a negative. Yea. Right. :D

Perhaps one expression demonstrates more contempt for the subject at hand.

Am sure the English majors can have a fun dialog. Unless they care less.

"Am sure the English majors can have a fun dialog. Unless they care less."

Or: Unless they careless........

Watch it. Hot comments like this are inflammable.

... er, or is it flammable?

:LOL::LOL:

Apparently they have taken up the Humpty Dumpty approach to language

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

:D

In the grander scheme of things, especially these days, this pet peeve of mine is a nothing burger. Yet it still kinda bugs me whenever I see it. And I continue to see it to this day after it first caught my attention during that scene in the movie Sleepless in Seattle -- when Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner are walking down Virginia Street toward the Pike Place Market.

Tom Hanks has a paper cup of coffee. (From the original Starbucks in Pike Place?) It is supposed to contain some coffee but, to my eyes, the cup is obviously empty by the way it is being held by Hanks.

Over the years since, I often see in movies and on TV actors holding or drinking from a cup of coffee. But it almost always appears to be an empty cup, by the way it is being held by the actor. Or, almost as often, they will tilt a supposedly full cup of fresh coffee to their mouth by over a 45 degree angle, when in real life you'd tilt a full cup just a bit. (And it's almost always coffee--not milk or soda.) ;)

I can't remember which sitcom it was, but the characters spent a lot of time in a cafe of sorts. You could watch the wait staff pouring coffee into the extras cups but usually, they wouldn't pour ANYTHING. And if you watched the extras, they never even would bring food to their mouths...they just moved it around the plates. I get that they are there for a long time and have to redo scenes over and over, but at least make it look somewhat real.

My pet peeve is people starting threads about pet peeves. :)

Or people who come into a thread about subject X and say, "I don't care about subject X. It means nothing to me and this is stupid to talk about." I see this over and over and over. IF you don't care, then why did you click on the thread?!?

People who tailgate and weave in and out of traffic lanes, constantly passing every vehicle in sight, only to end up at the next light maybe having gained 1 car length at best.

Three days of overcast conditions, when it was supposed to rain all three days. Maybe 0.1" total precipitation so far. If it's going to be gray and gloomy outside, RAIN!! This was typical for us back in Silicon Valley, especially through the drought winter months, but it wasn't what I was expecting here in Central Texas.

I have often wondered if some utilities dont hold payment checks on purpose just so they can generatea late charge. That has happened to us on a few occasions with windstream and electric as awell. mail payment on on the 1st and the check wont clear till the 20th and then they late charge you. Then I have to play phone tag to get it reversed. Auto pay is a pain as well, we did auto with our mortgage a couple years ago "Suntrust) they double billed us and then when I call ed them to get it fixed they acted like it was my fault. I went back to sending them a check.

Probably didn't expect the ~3 to 4" of snow we got last week either, did you?

I learned a long time ago to pay Windstream on line... They send me an email several days before they send the actual paper bill... Sometimes the paper bill only gets here a few days before it due... Not sure if I should blame the post office or Windstream. (or both) Anyway, I always get the email notification far enough in advance to make my on line payment on time.

Closer to 6" at our house. Rather impressive, since it was unexpected. Did little to help the plants other than to freeze them.

They're still sending these emails telling me my refund is enclosed. I hate them.

You don't have to open every email, you know. I delete the vast majority of email I receive without ever opening it, just based on the sender or the subject line. You could also add them to the blocked sender list if you don't want to see it again.

Adults that suck their fingers when they're eating. Ever hear of a napkin? Is it really necessary to stick your entire finger in your mouth, suck as hard as you can and make that disgusting smack noise when finger exists mouth?

People who do this are slathering their fingers with their own spit. Its even better when they then use that spit finger to tough everything else in sight.

If you're an adult, stop sucking your fingers. Its disgusting.

^ Furthermore, I really hate those people who bite down when I'm sucking their fingers!
