What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Just finished Into the Night (a bit ho humm) and Before we Die UK.

Vera S11 is not out on BritBox, the first 2 Episodes at least.

I am watching for All Mankind on Apple plus and really enjoying it. It is TV series about astronauts and a fictionalized space race with the Russians. It does it a very good job of developing the characters of the astronauts and their families. I have finished the first season and am starting the second season.

Started C.B. Strike last night. Watched first episode (part 1 of 3.) I am underwhelmed. Slowly plotted story of following around a down and out private investigator as he does his job.

Competently shot and directed, just so s-l-o-w. Something finally happened at the end of the first hour.

Does it get better? Because I almost fell asleep and there are 2 more hours left in this story.

Just move onto to something else...the strike books are between 500plus and 900 pages, the Harry Potter of the mystery world...anyway I though the series could have been longer!

I have moved on. Based on comments in this thread I started "For All Mankind", the alternative history series about the space race.

Sounds like something my DH would enjoy..let us know how you like it..

Started it last night, first two episodes. So far, so good. Like you, I am enjoying the character portrayals and also the political angles. However, I feel the writers are trying too hard with the portrayal of strong female characters. Not complaining about it, just don't think it's accurate. Then again, this is an alternative history narrative so the writers have license.

Speaking of alternative history and political angles, I thought it was clever that Teddy Kennedy didn't go to Chappaquiddick that moon landing weekend. I'm certain the writers are setting him up to run against Nixon in 1972. (No spoilers, please.)

We enjoyed Strike once we got into it. Did take a few episodes though and it was a little slow at first. But we are biased, we like UK Police style dramas.

When I was a kid in the 60's I wanted to become a major league ballplayer or an astronaut when I grew up. I was deep into NASA and following all the space missions. As an adult I've been to the Kennedy Space Center--twice. I'm also a history buff so "For All Mankind" is right up my alley. Every time I see something "wrong" on the show I have to remind myself it's *alternative* history.

For example, in the show flight director Gene Kranz says, "failure is not an option" in reference to Armstrong and Aldrin landing safety on the moon. Of course we know his character said this in the movie "Apollo 13". (He never said this in real life, however.)

If your husband is a fan of space travel history I think he would like this show.

Just finished watching The Hardy Boys (Amazon Prime or Hulu, depending upon which country you're in...) It was kind of cute.

I like UK police dramas too. I really liked "Line of Duty" and "Endeavour", for example. Strike just didn't grab me.

The second season is... different. To the point where I didn't bother finishing it.

Be interested on your take.

Bosch books much like Strike books are VERY character driven. They don't always make the transition to screen and satisfy everyone.

Two we are alternating between:

- “The Indian Doctor” on one of the PBS streaming services we have. An older BBC series that was also recently run OTA on a secondary channel of our local PBS affiliate. Stars Sanjeev Bhaskar whom you will recognize from several Brit cop shows. A doctor from India and his wife come to a Welsh mining town to fill a vacancy in the NHS practice in the mid-1960s. The episodes revolve around their quest for acceptance, a smallpox outbreak and the arrival of developers who want to create a “new” city. Although the episodes predate COVID by several years, the segment on smallpox and the difficulties getting people to accept the vaccine is uncannily similar to contemporary times. We are currently on Season 3. I give it a B grade.

- “My Life is Murder” on Acorn. An Aussie murder mystery dramedy revolving around an attractive ex-homicide detective who burned out on police work and is now an artisanal bread baker. Her former homicide colleague tempts her to serve as a “consultant” on cases the police couldn’t solve or for which the solution is questionable. Of course, she always, if reluctantly, takes the cases, reexamines them and inevitably solves them. Mostly set in Melbourne with great city shots. Another B.

I like the strong female characters because I am a strong female character too.

line of duty was very good. you might like 19-2, a Canadian police drama. 4 seasons long.

We watched that second series too, the one about the smallpox outbreak, and I couldn't believe the parallels with our Covid times. It added a dimension that wouldn't have been there when the series originally went out a few short years ago.

I thought the third series was pretty poor. The series ran out of steam and was canned after that third one. The writing just was not good enough - not like Call the Midwife which seems to go from strength to strength.

I'm halfway through the new "Clickbait" on Netflix. It's quite good!

Just started watching. It got me interested pretty much from the get-go. I hope it stays like this.

Whitstable Pearl, UK Police Drama. Basically episodic, which we like. Small town PI & Police Inspector collaborate.

There are two more episodes yet to be broadcast -- September 5th and 12th.

Didn't realize EVIL was renewed. I should be recording it but don't see it in my recordings. I wonder if it's on PFV?

Both seasons are available free with a Paramount+ subscription.

Oh! I didn't remember purchasing a Paramount subscription. Guess what? It is part of the Amazon Prime package.

Stanley Tucci Finding Italy is on HBO now, in case you missed it last summer, it's a lovely escape.

I will start binging it tonight. I love Stanley Tucci.

HBO is not going to be a subscription option on Amazon Prime as of Wednesday. I have enjoyed it, but probably not enough to subscribe to HBO!
