What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

i have TFA with Fidelity. It may not be mandatory, but it is available.

True. Plus there is extra steps/hoops to jump through for say, unusually large transactions like cash transfers.

Vanguard's treatment of joint account holders.

I realized that I had not changed our mailing address for our Vanguard accounts, so I logged on to the website to update the info. I was able to change the address for my Roth IRA account and my traditional IRA, but when I tried to change the mailing address for the joint (DH and I) investment account I received a "the system cannot perform that task at this time" error. Tried three times, never worked.

When DH logged on, he was able to make the address change. So apparently because his name is listed first on the account, only he could make the address change online. I don't understand why...we are joint account owners and I own the account just as much as DH does. Grrr...

I'm sure it has nothing to do with you being the wife and he the husband. Nope, couldn't be!:)

That reminds me of when we bought a new jointly owned car 33 years ago and financed it through the dealer, since at the time they had a special going on and it was cheaper financing than anywhere else. The salesguy listed my name first on all the paperwork so all the mail came addressed to me. DW made every single payment on the car (I might have made one, I can't really remember.) Anyway, when the loan was paid off I got a nice congratulatory letter from the finance company for making all the payments on time, good for MY credit rating, yada yada yada.

You could see the steam coming out of DW's ears!

So when we bought the 2014 Honda and they wouldn't do the deal unless we financed it though the dealer (they hastened to add there was no prepayment penalty because we wanted to pay cash) I told the guy to be sure to list her name first on all the paperwork, and said to her "This time you can be on top". Made the salesguy blush....

Extensive and intrusive medical forms. Today I had an appointment at the oral surgeon to consult about a future implant. As usual, the receptionist told me "we have a new system so you have to fill out new forms." I spent 15 minutes filling out 6 forms (and 10 minutes in the dentist's chair. Total cost of visit $107. But that's another rant). At one point, irritated by the questions, I asked the receptionist "Why exactly do you need my marital status? My employment status and history? A detailed list of past surgeries? etc." I told her I was not going to bother answering questions that I did not deem relevant to the reason I was in the office. She was not happy.

I've done the same when filling out medical forms....only put info in that I felt was necessary.

Well my ATT wifi calling saga continues. On a bright note I found a great customer service rep with ATT that has been more helpful than all of the others. He has been contacting me every day and has sent a new sim card to me through Fedex overnight. Fedex delivered the package this morning to a........garage........somewhere. Not in the Fedex delivery box we use at our remote subdivision (I already drove down the mountain to check). To a garage, got a picture of someone's garage with a box and a package and possibly my envelope. But we have about 300 cabins and 200 RV lots and most of them have garages.
This has been an unbelievable experience.

We stopped in at a localized chain restruant last evening for a quick bite on our way home fro DGD softball game. Dw ordered personal size pizza and I ordered cheesesteak sandwich. DW hates MUSHROOMS, she told the young lady to please leave off the mushrooms. We sat down and in a few mins. here comes order. DW starts looking and yep MUSHROOMS. why can't people get orders right at places when you order. I looked on my copy of reciept and it was on there but someone back in the kitchen was too stupid to read,or just didn't care!!!

I have noticed this phenomenon in restaurants I've frequented for (literally) 50 years. A recent incident had me shaking my head at perhaps my favorite restaurant.

As you might guess, not everyone does read these days and not everyone is familiar with English. When j*bs go begging, they may be filled with those who are simply willing to w*rk. When l@bor is short, standards may slip. I look for this to turn around as FED tightening does its thing.

But I guess you have to ask yourself: Which is worse? A climate where the best empl*yees can be had but many others are unempl*yed - or our current situation where anyone wanting a j*b can find one - but they may not be qualified. Both scenarios have their advantages and disadvantages. YMMV

This is not my pet peeve of the day. It is more like my ongoing pet peeve of the year - of the decade even. It is the practice of using the word "super" as a modifier. Many fully grown-up and intelligent adults do it. It drives me up the wall. There is a wide variety of other words to choose from, so why dumb down our wonderful language? For instance, when talking about how easy something was, you could say that it was,

very easy,
surprisingly easy,
exceedingly easy,
particularly easy,
shockingly easy,
extremely easy,
extraordinarily easy,

or a number of other options. Why, when all these different words are available, to add various subtleties of meaning to your sentence, would you opt instead, to say that it was "super easy"? The English language is a wonderful communications tool, but not the way that many speak it.

Not a peeve, just an observation over the last 6 to 10 months. In stores, restaurants, cafes etc. . Have not seen any women or girls in a dress or wearing a skirt. Seem they all wear leggings or pants of various lenghts.
Though the variety of torn jeans is truly astonishing.

I can't remember the last time I saw a skirt but I have seen quite a few light dresses during the Summer.

In cooler weather its not unusual to see younger women in skirts, often short, and wearing leggings underneath. Best of both worlds? Or a fashion phopah?.

I totally agree. Super good point ..

I say wear whatever is comfortable, don't worry about fashion.

Around here, most of the cooks can't speak good English and orders are frequently different than what was ordered. It's becoming a part of life as we move to third world status.

Wait a second, though.

Even if you are dealing with a language different than yours, one of the things you learn pretty quickly are food items. One would hope a cook has a minimal grasp on the items of a pizza.

Heck, I'm only doing Duolingo for German, and most of the common Pizza toppings are covered in the simple course.

Another over used word in the restaurant industry is 'perfect'. No matter what I order it's perfect. I could order a charred cheeseburger on a rice bun with pancake syrup and radish slices, and a bowl of chopped liver salad on the side, and it would be perfect.

I have very rarely worn any skirt anywhere, let alone a dress, for decades. There are plenty of smart options, where one doesn't have to consider how to sit to avoid accidentally creating an unintended disclosure. And a longer skirt might avoid that, but then driving is a bit more of a challenge, and the wind doesn't care what length it is.

I don't really hardly pay attention to what anyone is wearing unless it's obviously designed for attention. Even then, I figure most are choosing what they like personally, and feel comfortable in. Quite liberating.

The restaurants we frequent have been cycling through cooks and wait staff like crazy since the pandemic ended. But it seems like a common theme anymore with respect to what you order being not exactly what you get. Maybe I expect too much as I get older.

What makes it perfect is the artisan bread with melty cheese.

Two marketing words that make me want to puke.

Wow, you just can't catch a break on this, can you?
Fedex should be able to find it, I'm pretty sure they have a GPS location of where it's delivered to and they should be able to find and retrieve it.
