There's a few stations I've run into where I actually have the opposite problem. Remember the old days, when many cars had the fuel filler in back, behind the license plate or whatnot?
Well, when you have a side fill, you usually don't have to worry about how precise you are with lining up the car to the fuel pump. But, on some of my antiques, I've noticed I have to line up the car at almost the perfect spot, or the pump won't reach. It's especially bad with my '67 Catalina, where the license plate/fuel filler is low in the bumper. On cars where the license plate is higher, above the bumper and between the taillights, it's not AS bad.
But, that does make me wonder, if many of these modern pumps actually have shorter hoses than back in the day? At least, I've been driving cars like that since they were still in production and/or common used cars, and I don't remember having problems with the hose reaching?
Of course, places like BJ's, Costco, etc are different, and set up for reach-arounds, but I mean your typical, smaller, everyday gas station.
