What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Oh joy. I’m not sure I want to check this, although I probably won’t be able to resist.

We back out to the main screen on Roku, then re-enter HULU and open the show again. 90% of the time it works 60% of the time.

"Criminal Record" Great British Police Procedural about a Bent DCI and his cronies and a Straight DC who is in their crosshairs.

And when they are in-sync with the actual dialog on the screen.

We've had an off and on problem with the subtitles on the Hulu streaming network being 10 to 15 seconds ahead of the dialog on the screen. Nothing seems to work to remedy the issue, the only "cure" is to try again the next day to see if the problem persists. Frustrating.
Well, I checked yesterday and sure enough, we have a subtitle sync issue. Some pretty substantial differences, and it does make viewing more difficult.

So, it works about half the time? Thanks, I’ll give it a go tonight.

I don't use CC but have noticed on Netflix occasionally the sound track dialogue will be out of sync. Have to stop and restart and it usually is in sync.

I've been looking forward to the release of "Masters of the Air" on Apple+. It is the third in the WWII series following the release of "Band of Brothers" in 2001 and "The Pacific" in 2010. The first seven of the nine episode series have been released with the final one due out on March 15.

I was about to pull the trigger on a one-month subscription to Apple+ this weekend when this offer popped up on Slickdeals: New or Select Returning Subscribers: 2 Months of Apple TV+ Free. Perfect timing.

I've heard mixed reviews on MOTA and after watching the first episode I'm not sure how it will hold up when compared to the first two in the series. I doubt it will come close to being as good as Band of Brothers which I consider the best WWII film ever produced.

Just ran out of my three month appletv promo from my new iPhone purchase. One episode shy of finishing Masters of the air. Tried the Bestbuy promo. Got the email but the redeem link leads to a 404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Oh well. Might have to purchase one month to see that last episode.

I'm watching the Turkish historical soap opera, "The Magnificent Century," free on Youtube (with weirdly-timed advertisements). This 4-year series covers the reign of the longest-serving Ottoman Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, in the sixteenth century. It was apparently a smash hit in Turkey and in former Ottoman territories.

I'm quite enjoying it, although the English subtitles are atrocious (and minimal). You have to pay close attention! The episodes are immensely long - each around 1 hr, 45 minutes. But I'm kind of glad, because I have trouble finding things to watch, and this should take me until summer at least. Sometimes I walk on my treadmill while watching.

There's plenty of action - this was the expanding phase of the Ottoman empire - but the real action takes place in the sultan's harem. The machinations of the concubines, the control exercised by the eunuchs and their female lieutenants, the competition among the sultan's male children - it all makes for really grand soap opera. The historical record is followed - it's quite dramatic - but, alas, the politics and international intrigues are a bit slighted in favor of the harem dramas.

It's very chaste, though - reminds me of television from the 1960s, with everyone somewhat clothed, even in the baths, lol! And the budget for battle scenes must have been pretty low, as they are awkwardly staged.

I'm enjoying it in spite of these drawbacks. I've learned a lot - Wikipedia gets a workout after one of the episodes. Most, though not all, of the actors are quite good. You can see Halit Ergenc, who plays Suleiman, getting deeper and deeper into the role of "the sultan of the whole world." I think he quite enjoys it!

I'm surprised no network picked this up to distribute. It would really make a great series, but I don't think any western network would put the same amount of effort into these lengthy episodes, and they'd probably go overboard on the harem scenes.

If you're looking for a historical drama that will go on and on and on, give this a try!

Alone season 10 just hit Hulu, yay!

Thanks, I had no idea. Who knows how long it would have been before I figured it out. I'll be busy early this upcoming week but i'll binge it later in the week.

The Best Buy offer is for new and returning customers, where returning, i think, is inactive for 1+ years.
Even though I qualified for the offer, I got the same error code. So, my husband created a new Apple ID and got the 7 days + 3months free.

Started "The Gentlemen" yet another gangster style British Flick. Quite watchable. NetFlix according to the into screen.

"Pepsi, Where's my Jet?" Fun short series, true with some dark issues. An innocent young kid saw the ad and wanted the jet. Wow! Full of twists and interviews with people involved.

Just watched the mini series "The Signal" on Netflix yesterday. It held my interest long enough to watch the entire series in one day.

Very interesting/believable sequence of events/actions by the rich and powerful. The ending was surprising.

Watching "the regime" on hbo. It's Kate Winslet, so that's 99% of the reason to watch. It's billed as a political satire, but I think it's more of a farce. 2 episodes in and I can say without Winslet it would be a complete failure. But she's always compelling, and seems to be having great fun with the role, so I'll probably watch till the end.

Also, Mr & Mrs Smith, new series on amazon, Donald Glover produces and stars. Very good after 3 episodes. He's just so easy and natural to watch.

Just started watching on Netflix Girls5Eva (was originally a Peqcock series). This is a Tina Fey produced comedy about a popular Girl Music group, who didn’t last quite as long as “5eva”. They reconnect after many years (and much different lives) to make a comeback/ reunion. It stars Sara Barellis as one of the singers and also features the “chaos guy” from the Allstate commercials. It is Hilarious! I’ve only watched the first couple episodes (of 3 seasons) but its sharp dialogue makes up for the implausible comeback of these 4 women. Give it a watch if you’re looking for something funny and short (30 min episodes).

Feud: Capote vs The Swans: Full series on Hulu. Was an FX series. Entertaining with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Demi Moore, Calista Flockhart, Choe Sevigny, and Molly Ringwald as the swans. Tom Hollander as Truman Capote.

Watched episode 1 of "The Old Man" on Hulu. Stars Jeff Bridges as a retired spy that was living incognito but has since been rediscovered.

Normally, I like spycraft programs but my reaction was a bit ambivalent. Certainly is a well made production, if the pace a bit slow. Some of the action, when there was some, was a tad bit unbelievable for me.

I might give episode 2 a go, not sure though.

For those who have watched/are watching Masters of The Air" (Apple TV+) the attached link to an article reveals that the 100th bomb group and the airmen portrayed are real. I did not know that. Quoting from the article:

"The group earned the nickname "The Bloody Hundredth" because they sustained the heaviest losses of any U.S. combat unit in the war."

A documentary about the 'Bloody Hundreth' has or is being produced. I'm trying to locate where that can be seen and will post if/when I'm successful.

The series finale airs tonight, March 15th.

Unlike the original Shogun, this year's is spot-on for accuracy. I've trained in, & taught, Japanese martial arts since 1951, & haven't found so much as an incorrectly-tied obi to complain about! It's a real pleasure not to be distracted by something out of place. It's almost too bad that the producer/director couldn't just use Tokugawa instead of Toranaga, but I can see the cultural backlash.
