The overhead rates, of course, were multiplication factors applied to labor and materials partially to account for the fact that we had to pay benefits including health care, pensions, 401(k) match, etc. Over the course of my career, I watched these multipliers creep up from as low as 1.5 to well over 2.0. Now that companies are whittling down all the benefits, I wonder how much change they've been able to bring to the multipliers.

Trust us, we have your best interests at heart! We got what we asked for in Capalitism. Maximumize profits! No heart, no soul. Tough for me to say since I am a Republican. Just as naive to believe in the government as Democrats often do. You are responsible for yourself.

When you can no longer produce then you are dependent on foreign countries.
I am so glad the Central American leadership shoot down CAFTA. That would of ended the American farmer.
American Corporations have cut all the meat they can. Now it is down to the fat - which happens to be the worker.
Global economy is a good thing for shopping however a horrible thing for wages.
Things will balance out. I expect the American worker will end up being at the level of an Mexican worker by the time this is over.
China worker makes about .50 an hour - no benefits.
Indian worker makes about .40 an hour - no benefits
Philipino worker makes about .40 per hour - no benefits
Malysian worker even less.
Mexican - $4.00 per hour - some benefits.

Marketneutral said:I agree. It is all about the bottom line.
OK. Off my soap box. I turn off a lot of people when I state how it really is.
I would be interested in who you voted for and how they have represented you. Do you know? Are you planning on voting the same way (by Party maybe?) next election?Lazarus said:Our Government has sold out. It is no longer for the peope. The corporatons control the wealth. Just curious.

that is exactly as it should be. "Maximize profits"? That is
capitalism man. That's the way it works.
Re. the 401K matching change at GM, it's a good one. Quite logical. They will
need a whole bunch of these changes before the ship is righted.

WhodaThunkit said:But you didn't answer my question -- who you gonna trade for?
Marketneutral said:Ahhh, they took the job with the matching fund agreement. It is amazing how agreements can be broken and we just accept it.
I just have to say - get ready when your social security/medicare, etc, etc contract is broken because GM is in a lot better shape then the U.S. Government.

It's just business. Deal with it.

Lazarus said:Well I assume you mean for President. I voted Republican. Both parties serve corp. America before the people. So you have to choose whichever you think is closest to your beliefs. In the next election I probably will vote the same but who can really say yet. I don't know who is running. Not sure if you are implying that I don't vote or know why I voted the way I do? The present administration is not as carefull with my money as I would hope.

MRGALT2U said:Yes, I am a history buff. If you take a look at where we are (individually
or as a country) with the perspective of centuries instead of days,
it will give you a whole new outlook on just about everything.
I highly recommend it.
