I heard tonight that Jimmy has passed away surrounded by family and his dog, I do not have a link, other than the wiki had been updated.

I googled this and it seems to be confirmed. He will be missed. I always enjoyed his music. His legacy will live on.

Jimmy Buffett, off to Margaritaville.

RIP Jimmy, you brought us all a lot of pleasure with your songs and your stories.

Jimmy Buffett,
Roguish Bard of Island Escapism, Is Dead at 76

With songs like “Margaritaville” and “Fins,” he became a folk hero to fans known as Parrot Heads. He also became a millionaire hundreds of times over.

From NYT. Well said!

A co-worker, who has a band, has license plate # TWIHWYWB. This will be a shock to them.

A pirate looks at 40. RIP Jimmy, we loved your music.

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
And in your belly, you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I've done a bit of smugglin', and I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last
And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got to stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends
I go for younger women, lived with several a while
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day
Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while
Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

I recently noticed that Margaritaville has become a serious collection of resorts, including buying up and transforming some older resorts.

I think the one that surprised me was Gatlinburg TN, then I saw they are all over.

Nooooooooo...... I'm so sad. I used to see him on his sailboat in Coecles Harbor (Long Island) where he has beautiful waterfront home. In fact saw him last year out on the boat, still single-handing the 36ft yacht (there was always a dock hand waiting to help him secure the boat). He was a regular sight - would go out almost daily.

He's like my hero - not only as an entertianer - but as an extraordinarily astute real estate investor and businessman. It's rumored that he still owns most of downtown Sag Harbor (part of the "Hamptons" playground for the rich and richer).

Rest in peace Jimmy, I know you'll be out there sailing, just in another dimension.

Read somewhere this morning his estimated worth was around $500 million! Quite the astute businessman as well as entertainer. Again, RIP Jimmy and I hope you are enjoying that cheeseburger in paradise.

I visit Margaitaville "a lot". Sorry to hear this.

Dang "only" 76.

I think Forbes pegged it at right around $1B earlier this year. Looking for confirmation…

I didn't know that Jimmy had done covers of several Grateful Dead songs. Here's Uncle John's Band:

Younger Deadheads like my niece (about 40), seem to travel along in Parrothead circles too.

My very favorite of all his tunes. I saw him in concert at USNA on March 18, 1980. He put on a great show.

Another legend passes, RIP Mr Margaritaville.

We saw a few of his concerts here in the PNW. His sailing and flying resonated powerfully with me.
Stephen Stills covered "treetop flyer" in 1968.

I could be a rambler from the seven dials
I don't pay taxes 'cause I never file
I don't do bid'ness that don't make me smile
I love my aeroplane 'cause she's got style
I'm a treetop flyer
Treetop flyer
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run
I'm a treetop flyer
Treetop flyer
I fly low, I'm in high demand
Go 15 feet over the rio grande
I blow the mesquite right up off the sand
I'm seldon seen, 'specially when I land
I'm a treetop flyer
Born survivor
Now people been askin' me where'd you learn to fly that way
Was over in vietnam, chasin' the nva
The government taught me, and they taught me right
Stay down below the treeline and you'll be alright
I'm a treetop flyer
Born survivor
So I'm comin' home, I'm runnin' low and fast
Promised my woman this is gonna be my last
I get the ship down, I tie her fast
And then some old boy wakes up, and he says, "hey son,
Wanna make some fast cash? "
I'm a treetop flyer
Well there's things I am
And there's things I am not
Yes I'm a smuggler and I could get shot
I ain't gonna die, I ain't going to get caught
You see I'm a flying fool, and this aeroplane is, whoo, hot
I'm a treetop flyer
Born survivor
Workin' alone

I searched until I hit the end of the internet, I didn't find TWIHWYWB, what does it stand for?

A great loss especially considering that he was still doing shows and wowing the audience.
Lunch today will be Margaritas and Cheeseburgers in his memory.

Sad Day. Sirius XM M'ville channel is doing a nice tribute this morning, playing thru his entire catalog.

We've seen him so many times, I've lost count. We had a ticket connection inside the PNC Art Center Box Office. Every time he would come to Holmdel NJ, we would get seats close to the stage. One night between acts, I'm gazing around the amphitheater, and I see my Wife is having an animated discussion with somebody backstage.

Then I noticed that she and Jimmy were deep in a conversation. I chose not to interrupt.

Makes me very sad.

Only 76 too, and I'm guessing he lived his life pretty stress free if he lived like his music personna.

I wonder if he waited till 70 to start SS. Oops, wrong thread.

It does make one contemplate things (not just SS).
