Overly Complicated Email Verification
I bought a new domain name the other day, and they required that I verify my email address. Usually this is no big deal. This time, however, I had to log on to the web site, to get a code that would allow them to send me a link I could use to verify my address. Weird, but whatever.
Of course, after going through this the link doesn't work. After numerous attempts I contact the company and they blame it on my browser or plug-in's. I tried three different browsers, disabled all plug-in's, and disabled my virus scanners. Their site still failed to connect.
I contact the company again, they still blamed me, and said to use an online proxy service to get around the "issues on my end". Of course, I get the same results, the site times out and won't connect.
Eventually the solution I had to use was:
1. Log on to the web site and have the verification link sent to my email.
2. Forward the link to my cell phone.
3. Disable WiFi on the phone to force it to use mobile data.
4. Access the link from my phone to connect and verify.
It finally worked, but sheesh, does it really need to be that complicated.
