NFL 2023 Season

First 2023 preseason game (a.k.a. Hall Of Fame game) starts in less than a hour. I'm going with the Jets, even if Rodgers doesn't play.

Until now, I haven't been paying much attention to our upcoming schedule. Just saw that the Seahawks have a Thanksgiving Day game this season. That should be a fun day!

49ers are pretty much guaranteed to be in the NFC Championship game again the way their roster is. Stacked everywhere. This is the year they will win it all.

They don't even have a starting QB yet so I wouldn't be so confident and the candidates are a bit underwhelming and untested at a high level.

And Demarcus Ware sang the national anthem for HOFG. Another reason they are America's Team, aside from the cheer leaders.

As a Packer fan every year with Rodgers had high expectations and they never came to fruition except for 2010. Now with Love, there are no expectations so the games should just be fun to watch.

After 30 years of being spoiled with Favre and Rodgers I expect the Packers to go back to the Packers of my childhood where we never had a winning season for many years in a row. We will soon realize how good we have had it with Rodgers and wish he were back. I expect a very bad season starting with a streak-breaking loss to the Bears. I hope i'm wrong but I do not see Love as any where close to a top tier QB like Rodgers was.

And he did a pretty good job. I'll bet he was nervous even though he didn't show it.

Not that interested in the best "football" squads.

I am actually glad Rodgers is gone. Seeing how engaged he is with the Jets tells me he checked out long ago.

Hope my picking the winning team improves this season. I think I'll stay away from the sportsbook until it does.

Preseason games are impossible to pick.
I realize they are trying out new players, plays, etc and most of the better players that "have made the team" are just watching from the bench in preseason, for the most part. That's why I'll wait until the games start counting before placing my $ bets.:)

Brock Purdy is the starter.

Have you let Kyle Shanahan know that? Below is from 49ers.com as of June 23 (~ 6 weeks ago)

... Position Outlook

During the offseason, head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that competition for a leading role in the quarterback room will take place at training camp.

"It's very hard to come to training camp and be ready to beat someone out, and that's why you try to provide all this stuff to give guys a chance to learn the offense," Shanahan said. "Now when they go to training camp, they're ready to compete, and that's truly where I see the competition starting."

In this year's open OTA practices, quarterbacks Trey Lance and Sam Darnold split reps with the first team. Since being cleared to play, Lance has taken advantage of this downtime in the NFL to train with the best in the league, working alongside teammates as well as reigning Super Bowl LVII MVP Patrick Mahomes. After playing in the league for five seasons, Darnold has found his place in The Bay and joined the team with a "rookie-like" eagerness to learn Shanahan's complex offensive scheme.

As for second-year pro Brock Purdy, he began a throwing program mid-way through the 49ers offseason training activities. To date, the quarterback has not suffered any setbacks since his UCL repair surgery in early March and is "right on pace" with his projected recovery timeline. ...

Shanahan already knows, and has made it clear. Also, Purdy is right on schedule on his rehab.

Preseason games are to figure out who is the #2 and the #3 QBs. At this point, just based on the first preseason, it's Darnold, Allen, and Lance dead last.

Kyle Shanahan sets record straight on Brock Purdy, 49ers starting QB discussion
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan opened up on the decision to make Brock Purdy the starter for this season.

... “He's been [the starter] since last year ended,” Shanahan said, according to Smith. “He was always clearly our starter, but there were so many questions about his injury, how he'd come back from it, that we didn't even know if he'd be ready for this year, so we had to prepare for everything else. I mean, Trey was the guy we gave the keys to last year, so we were definitely excited to have him in a situation [to play], and we also didn't know if Brock would be back, so we needed someone to come in and at least compete with Trey, and give us a chance, because Trey was hurt last year, and just got cleared before OTAs. That's why we brought Sam in here. And those guys have been competing their butts off, and I feel great playing with those guys. But like I told them, like I've said to media, like I said to everyone since Day 1, based on what Brock did on tape last year, it's hard to beat that out in practice.”

49ers QB Brock Purdy cleared for practice without off day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy cleared one more significant obstacle on his road to starting in the team's Sept. 10 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Purdy will now be able to participate in three practices in a row without a built-in off day, coach Kyle Shanahan announced during his conference call Monday. It's another important step in Purdy's recovery from offseason elbow surgery.

Purdy did not play in San Francisco's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Sunday's preseason opener but Shanahan has said Purdy could play at some point in one of the final two preseason contests. The Niners host the Denver Broncos on Saturday evening. Whenever Purdy does play, it will be his first live game reps since tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow in a Jan. 29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game.

******

BTW, for those who didn't watch the Raiders/Niners game in LVegas, Raiders rookie QB Aidan O'Connell from Purdue lit Allegiant Stadium up. Keeping in mind 90% of the players were second-stringers, he nonetheless looked calm, confident, and made excellent decisions. It was an impressive display by the kid. Weirdly, with his helmet on he looks a lot like Derek Carr, who is now with the Saints.

I haven't really been a football fan as an adult, but am encouraged about the sale of the Washington Commanders and seeing the team under new management, despite my disgust at Dan Snyder making several billion on the deal.

My prediction, Cowboys will make it to first round of playoffs. Dak will throw intercepts and be awful and yet another one and done.

So they’ll make the playoffs as a wild card then right? ?

My prediction is that the Texans won't win more than three games and will fire the whole team.:D Oh, and a new head coach will be sought after for the next season.

Pretty much business as usual here in Houston.

And my two friends with season tickets and bought seats will again fail to find a buyer for them for another year.
