What did you do today? 2017 version

Had blood drawn for lipids/cholesterol, etc, got home in time for trucking company to deliver the tonneau cover for my new truck. Installed it. Then UPS delivered my new macro camera lens. Took a few photos. Got 2 bins for the back of the truck - one for work clothes (in case I get a flat) and one for misc tools. Organized my scrap wood bin. Grilled a steak, and now getting to take some indoor macro photos.

I never have this problem. I'm always dressed appropriately to change a tire.

Ordered four pieces of stainless flatware (three forks and a steak knife) from a replacement silver/china/crystal place in North Carolina; picnic with paper plates but real forks etc. on Monday, lots of unwanted "help" cleaning up, dishwasher ran on Monday night, garbage truck took trash Tuesday morning, realized we were short these 45-year-old pieces when unloading the dishwasher Tuesday afternoon. Lots of sentimental value in the lost pieces, so glad this outfit can replace them. We don't have a lot of stuff but I love the stuff we have.

We have used Replacements.com a few times. We still like the china and silver we started out with and we're happy that we can keep up with wear and tear over the years.

Smart move. Several years ago on the way home from work, dark, about 0°, I got a flat. I wasn't prepared for the weather conditions. Had to call DW to bring my coveralls, hat, gloves, flashlight.

Now retired, I'm somewhat dressed appropriately to change a tire, but not like you folks in the mountains.

We saw the play As You Like It by the California Shakespeare Theater at an outdoor amphitheater and had a picnic beforehand in the sculpture garden next to the theater last night. Cal Shakes mixes Shakespeare with modern music, sets and costumes so the works are very original. Today we just caught up around the house, took the dog for a walk and did some grocery shopping.

I went to my new acupuncture doctor today for my knee problem. She seems good, been practicing for 37 years. Will go back Monday.

Mowed the lawn. No edging, no weedwhacking, just pushing a gas mower for about an hour in the sunshine. Life is good.

Just found out about an app called "OfferUp".

Sold an exercise bike, massage chair and a coffee table in under 10 minutes. All had been languishing on Craig's list and eBay.

If you need to sell stuff fast it's worth checking out.

Thanks Lisa, that's my goal this year. Lots of decluttering

In Columbia Md for the capital jazz festival. Meeting up with a few cousins.

Ordered a bunch of equipment to outfit my new 2017 Jeep Wrangler so that I can tow it behind my new 2017 Thor Challenger motorhome. Still need to decide on an auxiliary braking system for the Jeep. This RV thing is turning out to be more expensive than I initially thought. Definitely well beyond 4% this year!!

Watched as two guys broke up about a 12' part of the sidewalk that leads from the driveway to the front porch with a sledgehammer and masonry chisels. That's work! Part of the sidewalk had sunken below the level of the part adjacent to it and we'd noticed people tripping on it during the last year and we weren't going to wait until someone got hurt.

Then they put in a good bit of rebar and mixed and poured the new section, all by hand, no cement mixer, in a wheelbarrow but the end result looks very good. Very clearly they had done this before many times. Later in the day one guy came back to remove the wooden formers on the side and load the broken up concrete in the pickup truck. All this for $350! I gave him an extra $20. That was a lot of work for what I think was not much money. He did a good site cleanup too.

The thing is, I tried getting more-established concrete companies to do this and they didn't want to bother with that small of a job and quoted minimums of $1,200 and higher, so I gave up and went to Craigslist and hired a guy who showed up when I called and said he could do it the next day, I guess he didn't have much work and needed the money. I was expecting to pay $400 to $600.

Working on my 1971 VW Super Beetle today. Some parts came in. This is becoming a labor of love.

This weekend is rebuilding inner door panels. I can hopefully re-use the original vinyl covering and glue it on new backer board. Backer board will be 1/8" fiberboard and I will install a moisture barrier between it and the inner door.

Backside of door panel showing water damage:

About ten years ago I had a little concrete that needed to be replaced. It was too small to bother getting bids so I went to Home Depot and rented a jackhammer for a day. Got the job done nicely, but I was very surprised at how hard it was to operate that thing -- quite a workout. Good for you; I would have given the extra 20 too.

It's become our goal by the end of June! We bought a house while we were in Florida on vacation so as of June 22 we own 2 houses! Working quickly to get the one in Vegas on the market and get all our stuff sold since we don't want to move it.

I got my nephews to do it. They were tall strapping boys, well at least tall. They didn't think nothing of it. It would take my husband and I the whole day to break them up.

Opened the pool today and all it cost was $7.50 on chlorine and about 90 min of vacumeing.
Pool water was perfectly balanced. Woo Hoo.

Watched the landscapers lay my new brick patio, plant a tree, and roll out sod. Yesterday the backyard was a mud pit; today it is a pleasant yard!

Flew a Pilot's & Paws mission today. Weather a bit marginal, but it worked out. Picked the 65 pound Belgian Malenois from an airport near San Diego and flew him up to Santa Barbara. The dog was rescued from Tijuana.
Handed the dog off to a second pilot who took him up to the Bay Area for a new forever home.
An over 4 hour mission. My copilot and I had our usual celebratory beer. Then we both went for an OPN (Old peoples nap).
Attached is a picture of the dog at his forever home. He is pooped!

Ok, yesterday actually. Went back to "the office" to attend a former boss's retirement luncheon. 5 months after FIRE'ing. It was weird. Really. I went back a couple times 1 month after my last day and it was really like nothing had changed. But now, with my "Visitor's Badge", after the luncheon and having gotten "signed in", walking around un escorted it was really weird... in neither a good nor bad way. I wandered the cube farms stopping by to see people I had a tight relationship with... but I felt oddly out of place..... and reminded myself how that was a good thing. The company is not in a good place, and I predict will be GONE in 5-10 years. So I see these poor schmucks working hard for what, I believe, is a lost cause (my wife still works there..... for now) and I think "I'm out. I made it." Really kind of surreal.

Yesterday tried to do a two-fer at the doctors (Kaiser).... Older son needed a panoramic xray of his jaw - in advance of his upcoming appt with the maxillo-facial surgeon next week. This is followup to his jaw surgery last november to remove the Ameloblastoma.
We're hoping to have him cleared for contact sports again so he can play water polo this summer... It all depends on whether the jaw bone is regenerating enough. I needed lab work as follow up to my checkup a few months ago... I tested low iron on the blood work at the time, and they were out of stock on the vitamin D tests back then.

It was only a one-fer... the pano xray machine was out of commission... But I got my bloodwork done.

This morning I walked the dog on the beach, then did my laps and water fitness class, then went for a teeth cleaning. Came home to find an email from my doctor.... Still low iron and she wants to rule out gut bleeding (!!!!). So I get to schedule a colonoscopy (not due till next year) and a EGD.... Not looking forward to that. The prep's the worst part.

Spent yesterday at the local artist co-op I've been involved with for a few years, manned the store for a few hours and was worn out when I got home. Today is 2 months since my cancer surgery, all on track but boy is it taking a long time to get my strength (and weight) back. Two weeks ago, started eating solid foods again in small quantities so recovery well under way. Hope to stop the supplemental food in a few weeks, doc wants to see me add a few more pounds first. Hopefully I'll be able to stop the weight gain when I get to my optimum weight!

davemartin88--so glad you are doing well!

Had the house painted yesterday. It looks so nice and fresh!

Congratulations on making good progress!

But your post made me smile. You're looking to get UP to your optimum weight while most people are struggling to get DOWN to it. Completely different concept.
