Three hard inquiries on my credit report?!

Frozen for 15 years. Took 5+ years to stop getting ads for new credit cards. Easy to unfreeze one in order to buy a car.

Like many here, I check my credit regularly on Credit Karma, etc.

I was shocked to see that my report reflected three "hard" inquiries, as I haven't so much as opened a new credit card in more than a year.

I don't see anything else amiss on the report, and my score remains high.

How can I fix this? Do I need to freeze my credit?

Thanks,

Amethyst
Better find out where those came from, and also freeze your credit. Remember, a hard inquiry has a direct negative effect on your credit score.

I would recommend everyone freeze credit their credit.

Quick story...

Mine credit is frozen and recently I got a letter from Chase asking me to unfreeze my credit for my new credit card application to be processed. I however didn't apply for a credit card

Turns out, someone was trying to open a credit card in my name in Florida.

If my credit was not frozen they would have got the card. Most of our information is out there after all the hacks at Experian, Home Depot, Blue Cross, Target, etc so it's worth doing.

✌🏽

Who were the hard inquiries from? Do you have auto insurance about to renew?
If these are completely unfamiliar, notify the credit bureau that this was not you, contact the place that did the hard inquiry also if you can and freeze your credit at all four bureaus (including Lexus Nexus who has just gotten into the game).

+1
I know my freezing works, as I failed to get a CC, until I remembered to unfreeze it temporarily for 1 day and apply

It's worth monitoring your credit even if it's frozen. My son-in-law had his identity stolen to such a degree that the bad guy was able to convince a credit agency to unlock his credit, and bogus accounts were subsequently opened.

I use three different credit monitoring tools. When I had a hard inquiry hit one of the bureaus a few years back, all three notified me within minutes of each other. So they work.

Credit reporting security hole

I froze the 4 majors back when it cost $10 to do so because the hits will just keep coming from these criminally incompetent companies.

Here's the latest issue.

A "FREEZE" is not the same as a "LOCK"
Locking is a service they will steer you towards.
Freeze. Do. not. Lock.
