Very cool article and approach for the home town. I liked reading about the various events and especially the locations where Super Bowl XLIV (Saints/Colts) will be replayed.
Our quarterback, Drew Brees, pleaded with fans to try to handle this with some grace and to not be mean or destructive. So hopefully all will go well in these events, which are intended to be a way of thanking the Saints for a good season this year. I would imagine that even more locations could be playing that past Superbowl (that the Saints won), if they can find a copy of it which might be hard to do today.

The city of Atlanta and the CBS network will probably be the biggest winners regardless of what happens on the field. At least the way I keep score.

Here’s hoping all stays calm in NOLA. While Saints fans (all fans, really) have a reason to be angry or at least disappointed, they also have reason to be proud and celebrate in that light. Realistically, there will likely be some “occurrences” but those happen all over on days of major sporting events.

That sounds like a good idea and I very much sympathize with the anger of Saints fans. This Super Bowl really should be the Saints vs the Patriots. If LA wins, their win will be stained with a huge asterick... and that is unfortunate too. And if the Patriots win, then there will always be a bit of wonder as to what would have happened if it had been Saints v Patriots.

I hope that they have at least figured out who the idiot ref who should have thrown a flag but didn't was and told him not to bother to show up for next season.... or any other season.

Big $$$ winners Super Bowl weekend are the ladies of the evening that fly into town. They know where to find the money.

Drew Brees is a class act.

The Saints got totally robbed. The non-call of that game is another reason I think instant replay should just be scrapped. In football and even more so in baseball. No matter how many replays are reviewed during a game, there will always be cases of a call/non-call controversy. End result, replay just delays the game.

I'm not really cheering for or against either team in the SB. Though I don't think score will be too close (prediction Patriots 34, Rams 17) I hope for a close game and some good commercials.

My [-]challenge [/-] plan is to go dark at game time, by turning off the computer and smart phone.

I love Drew Brees. Classy guy and a great QB. We had hoped to have a Saints/Pats SB.

There is no question the Saints were robbed by the no call. Very sad for all NFL fans, especially Saints fans this time.

Hopefully there will be a change in what's reviewed when? But what that change should be isn't obvious, at least to me. A bad call with 2 minutes left in a tie game is obviously an issue. However, a bad call in the first quarter could just as easily impact the outcome of a game, but there is no way to know that until it's over, if then. And I don't think we want football games to stretch out to 5-6 hours with endless reviews either.

In general, you have to have some empathy for refs who have to make calls while running up and down the field, with no way to absolutely ensure they're in exactly the right place all the time. [Again, not debating the Saints no call instance itself where it appears the ref was right there]. IMO it's totally unfair that the audience and the talking heads get to see ANY play from almost any angle in slow motion, reverse and stop action - while the refs only have that option under limited circumstances. It's just asking for conflicts, putting the refs at a disadvantage.

OTOH I am sure the NFL is mindful of not letting games take 5-6 hours with endless replay reviews.

Not sure what the right answer is, but I have some empathy for the refs, it's largely a thankless job (like most).

There has been mention of giving coaches one or two black flags a game where judgement calls could be reviewed.... I like that idea..... it would probably avoid the kind of atrocity that we saw in NO a couple weeks ago.

I seriously doubt it would have helped in this case "if" they are only allowed one or two "judgement" calls per game. Lot's of times the black flags could have been thrown before that missed call which was very near the end of the game.

Maybe the judge they call on to help them with the replays could alert them of bone head misses like that one.

I disagree. I suspect that coaches would save them for really critical, game changing plays.... like perhaps a score getting called back as a result of a judgement call that the replays suggest was wrong or late in the game when desparation sets in.

Not a chance in a game like that. Several other missed calls that I saw. But of course you are entitled to your opinion.

I like the idea. I clearly lip read Sean Payton saying 'you must be kidding me' or something like that to the head zebra after the no call.

If they handle the proposed black flags like the do red challenge flags, I don't see coaches wasting them. And if they do, they won't have them when really needed, and have no one to blame but themselves.

They have to do something to level the playing field for the zebras. Back when none of us could see replays, much less slow motion, stop action and every angle immediately after a play none of us could be sure if there was a mistake. As it stands, everyone sees more than the ref much of the time.

Wow, what a boring SB at halftime. Goff can’t get on the field and when he gets the ball, he hasn’t done much. Brady has moved the ball, but lots of bad throws so he can’t sustain a drive.

At least Donald and Su haven’t taken over (yet) as I feared.

Hopefully the second half will be better...go Pats.

and who is CK?
CK = Colin Kaepernick, the first, or at least most well-known NFLers to take a knee. Basically black-balled from the league.

I have no idea who Quanell X is, but I'm sure I could google it if I cared.

Ugly win, lowest scoring SB ever?

Yeah, I think 14-7 was the previous, Washington only scored when Miami's foreign kicker tried to throw a pass after a botched snap.

Does Brady get the MVP? He didn't do anything special, pretty mediocre.

I do think this game confirmed that is Belichick that is the great one and not Brady.

Brady just has a better supporting cast than others like Rodgers or Manning ever had. I'm not sure what Belichick did that makes him so great. A couple receivers did really well and the main running back did pretty well. Also played well overall on defensive.

Edelman should be the MVP. Brady has good drive than won the game.
And the dynasty continues....

Edelman got it, as he should've, or maybe the whole Pats D.

And a 41 yr old guy doesn't play great, but good enough to win, and that proves he really wasn't all that great over his career? Really?
