What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Got it. Thanks! I will watch a few more episodes and see. It won a lot of awards, so I know a lot of people thought it was very good.

I know I'm jumping in late, but do watch up through the last episode of season 1, "The Wheel". I thought that was one of the best written TV episodes I'd ever seen. If the series still hasn't grabbed you after that then it's probably just not your cup of nicotine.

I enjoyed many, but by no means all, of the subsequent episodes but none hit me with quite the gut punch of The Wheel.

I watched 'Rumpole of the Bailey' years ago, and I go back to revisit every once in a while.
It stars Leo McKern as Horace Rumpole, an aging London barrister who defends any and all clients. (a crotchety old barrister!)

I grew up watching Rumpole and his dear SWMBO.

It was on just before the superlative Jeremy Brett as the definitive consulting detective.

I just finished Season 1 of the new version of "All Creatures Great and Small" on PBS. Enjoyed it very much. I don't remember much of the original version, but know it was long running.

He died about 95 years ago. You must have missed the RIP thread.

Ah, but Ayesha apparently lives on in rerun TV land.

I've always wondered what that is like for relatives, every now and then seeing your long dead Dad / Mom on TV.

Years ago I played a tape my Dad had made, to hear his voice, and it was a pretty powerful experience, memories just flooded in.
But I purposefully did it, so it wouldn't be like accidentally seeing them on TV as you flip the channels.

Queen of the South- both of us
Dynasty- me. I wasnt old enough to watch the first Dynasty, but I like the new one. I think the fashion is making nods toward the old one also.

Sorry that happened my DH and I both like S and B and that isn't too common for us.

Chacun à son goût I guess......we found it to be a little too contrived.....Mel Gibson & Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon were a whole lot better, (as were a multitude of other stereotypical mismatched partnerships....including The Bridge, which we thoroughly enjoyed), this one wasn't (for us).

Happy viewing.

I've been watching Monarcha on Netflix. Too bad my family's business is no where near as large as the fictional company in the series. Otherwise, my personal rep would be posting on this forum on my behalf, not me. Anyone involved with a dynastic family biz with succession issues will recognize that some of the family dynamics shown in the series are spot-on. The series makes me wonder how much less corrupt the U.S. is than Mexico. I have no experience doing business in Mexico so I can't comment. :greetings10:

We are in Season 2 of 4 of Mr. Robot on Prime Video. Man, what a twisted but compelling show, which we keep saying seems oddly appropriate for 2021 with the pandemic and our political upheavals even though that season was written circa 2017.

+1
Enjoying this one very much and we love the scenery.

I'm almost done with Dark. I have a few more episodes to go. Your observation is a common one. I still suggest people watch at least the first two seasons. And if you like it and see where it is going, continue. Otherwise you are fine ending at Season 2. Plenty of enjoyment from that.

The story is incredibly intricate and well thought out. The sets are superb with alternate year settings done very well. The acting and direction is top notch. The English dub is too bright and loud, and not always the best. (Also, how does only one family member have an Irish accent?) They also missed an opportunity to properly translate a joke in season 2, which is about the only joke in the whole series. Still, if you want to understand it best, the English dub is most accessible.

Quick view tip: when you hear a "click" on scene changes, the year changed. Second tip: after about episode 7 of season 1, pull up the "Family Tree" section of wikipedia for season 1. Do not look at any other wikipedia section. Do not pull it up before episode 7, otherwise you risk spoilers. The family tree will help you make some sense and keep track of the long character list. Look only at the family tree for your season.

I've never seen Stranger Things. It is next on my list. Comparisons have been made by others. I find comparisons to Twin Peaks. Except, Dark is efficiently German and tries to be pseuo-scientific, whereas Twin Peaks was artistic with pure fantasy. There are no backward talking little men in Dark. Dark has almost zero humor too. There's a reason it is Dark.

After I finish, it will be time to watch in German with the German captions. I know some German, but the slang and complex topics eventually got me. I think on a second try it will be fun since I'll have context.

Oh, BTW, if Back To the Future uses simple math, then consider Dark like this: season 1 - simple math, season 2 - algebra, season 3 - calculus. And yes, they do briefly reference Back To The Future. Why not? :)
We got through Dark and quite enjoyed it. It definitely is not a show that one can be surfing the web while watching. Even had to shush the kids a few times as they wandered by. Thank goodness for the ability to go back in time (in Netflix!!). It probably could be used to test for early dementia - what year is it? Whose relative is that or whose earlier or later self?

I think it’s been discussed before, but Shetland on Britbox is excellent with intricate plots in an unusual (and beautiful) setting for a police show. The heavy Scottish accents make it a wee hard for Americans at times, but I’m getting better at understanding the dialog.

Battle bots. It’s in season 5 now.

The only reason I still subscribe to some linear channels (Philo) is for Battlebots!

The play-ins are done. Looking forward to the tournament starting next week.

Wow, I finally broke down and purchased HBO max so I could watch Raised by Wolves. After the first 2 episodes I’m not so sure. It’s well made. But the story is bizarre so far and I’m not caring for the overt faith/atheism war aspect.

I’ll give it a bit more of a chance. I do love good sci-fi and have loved Ridley Scott stuff. Just a bit of a shock to the system so far.

Finished watching season 5 of The Expanse.

Great stuff. A return to form after what I felt was a lacklustre season 4.

To bad there is only one more season to go but this show is so well made I'd say it is already amongst my favorite sci-fi ever.

It's definitely well made and entertaining! However, I would agree, quite bizarre and that does not change. It kept our interest, though.
