Dogs

Awe, he is a cutie. Looks raring to go! He will keep you busy.

He looks like a Teddy!
What a beautiful boy.
I lost my favorite son last May. He was 15 and about a year past his breeds, miniature schnauzer, life expectancy.
I am going to get another dog soon. Probably a rescue. I love labs but I don’t have the backyard space a lab would need.
I do have a pool so need to take that into account. My schnauzer navigated around the pool just fine. He hated the water!
I’m not sure another dog would though.
I guess we all have concerns about the dangers for our dogs around us.

Congratulations [emoji3060] on the new addition to your family.

We buried our last 2 dogs at 13 & 15. It was so lonely without at least one dog. Nextdoor had a chocolate labradoodle that could no longer be cared for by its owner and Coco Chanel is now sitting beside us on the couch. She improves my life immensely: companionship and exercise. Been a dog person all my life.

When we lost our previous dog we figured we would try (for the 1st time in 30 years) to go without a dog and do a bunch of travel. We lasted 3 months and 2 of those months were just waiting for the new pup to reach 10 weeks old so we could pick him up.

I’m so happy for you and even more for your sweet dog!

Congrats on the new pooch!

Yup. Once you've had dogs, you are forever committed. Me too, I like dogs and if you don't I don't want to know you.

Me 50+ years ago. Never Not had a dog since!

OP here. could you please tell us a story about you and this dog? Thanks.

Don't remember. Pictures go back further than my memories.
I can never remember NOT having dogs growing up. Living in the country, they were always outside dogs. Once I was an adult and married, we had a Weimaraner, an inside dog. The first time my Dad came to visit, he was flabbergasted that we allowed the dog inside and up on the couch.
We now have 3 rescues: a 140 lb Mastiff, a Boxer (in her last years with hip problems) and a husky (perpetual 3-year olds). Our California King bed can barely hold us all! When the Mastiff starts running in her sleep, she will practically push me out of bed! Wouldn't have it any other way.

Came across another pic. I noticed old family photos almost always had a dog in the picture. Must be genes.

I got my first dog as a adult 19 years ago and I will never be without one. I have mostly had Maltese although I have rescued others. Right now I have half siblings Amy and Max. Congrats on the new addition!

DW and I recently moved to a farm in flyover land, for 6 years prior we had lived in the north woods near Canada. We have been without a dog for 6 years and wanted to get another, but didn't dare due to the number of wolves & bears at our home. Encounters were common and the biggest, toughest dog in the world is no match for a pack of wolves.

Well, we're unpacked here now and DW wife went online to a nearby shelter and fell in love with a yellow lab/hound dog cross that we just have to have. We pick him up Monday, wish us luck.

Had dogs and been around dogs my entire life. Hunting dogs ranch dogs and just dogs. Lol
I decided not to replace my last dog that has been gone for about 10 years now. I wasn't sure I could have given the ne dog all the attention I needed too with all the things happening in life. Never replaced him and probably never will now but dogs are great friends.

Nothing like the unconditional love we get from dogs. Best of luck Stormy with the new addition.

The place I worked summers had working dogs, always outsode, primarily for duck hunting. They were trained not to bark unless it was something really interesting, like a prowler in the middle of the night (unlike dogs in my current neighborhood, where there always a barking chorus, day and night). But another duty was chasing off black bears. In decades, none of them ever had any significant injuries from bear misadventures. They were all golden retrievers.

A breed I was previously familiar with has become more popular in my area recently: the Novia Scotia duck-trolling retriever (speaking of duck hunting). It looks somewhat like a field-bred golden, maybe a bit smaller. Some have white markings. Their behavior in the field is interesting -- they lure waterfowl into gunshot range by raising a ruckus on the shoreline. Then they retrieve any birds the hunter might have shot.

My brother has one. He lives in Canada where they've been popular for years.

OP here. We got him home on Monday like we planned. A good dog, Teddy R. is his full name.

He's 4 and a half and a very good natured dog in the house and walking outside. Mostly lab with some coon hound in him too. We're taking our time letting him get used to his new home and are very happy.

Thanks for all the kind wishes everyone, wish you could meet him.

Just keep an eye on him. I’m thinking of another lab after a loss several years ago and another heartbreak. I’ve still kept all the collars and dog house name plates for decades.
Best wishes and have an awesome spring and summer!!!!

Thank you for adopting/saving a dog at the shelter!

I have often wondered if people who live alone without pets talk to themselves. I talk to my dog all the time even though he is deaf.

No, I don't talk to myself. But I do talk in my sleep sometimes, lately! Don't really know what's up with that.... :)

I once saw a you lady with a dog, I went up and started talking to the dog. She ask my why I would talk to a dog, they don't know English and can't speak. I ask her if she ever talked to the dog she said no. Poor dog.:(
