What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Just completed Killers of the flower moon. Pretty good because we focused on the tragedy and the acting. It could have been 45 minutes shorter but I would see it again.

Did you see that in a theatre or via streaming? My source indicates it's currently in theatres only.

Since we enjoyed Virgin River and watched it all we are now watching and enjoying Sweet Magnolias... both on Netflix.

Brokenwood - or maybe it's Brokenwood Mysteries. It's a New Zealand mystery thing, more comedy than drama, hour and a half format, 4 - 6 shows/season, with an assortment of wacky side characters. I watched seasons 1 through 7 on Hoopla (free from my library) and signed up for Acorn to get 8 and 9. I watch when I'm on the treadmill fwiw.

Bosch: Legacy, S2 is now available on FreeVee. IMDB indicates that 2-episodes will drop every Friday for 5-weeks but the first 4-epis are available on FreeVee now. We're watching epi 204 right now.

Isn't that a movie directed by Martin Scorsese?

kcowan,

The book provides significantly more to the horror.

Not surprising. I have watched The Witcher, Wheel of Time and Foundation and found all three to be far less than the books they are based on, IMO.

OTOH, I found Lincoln Lawyer and most of Bosch to be much better adapted. They have modernized some of the small details to put events in our modern times, but the characters, plots and outcomes are pretty much the same.

I’m watching “Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix. So far I’ve seen 5 episodes, with 3 to go, but this is one I’ll see through to the end. Poe is among my favorite authors and I really like this series.

It is based on the Poe short story of the same name and other Poe works (Telltale Heart). It is gruesome and not for the faint of heart, but I think it does a very good job of capturing Poe.

Two episodes left for me. It’s Succession meets [emoji317].

IMO, one of the best shows on TV. As the creator said, "It’s a crime drama with a twinkle in its eye." Apparently, it's been renewed for Season 10, although any details are still hard to figure out after several google searches. I'm waiting with bated breath.

I will say that not all episodes are great - I'm especially thinking of the first episode of season 9. Ugh! Most are, though. My favorite, and that of many fans, is definitely season 7 ep 3, "Dog Day Morning."

Theater. But with comfortable reclining seats. Only CAM quality on streams so far.

OK, thanks. 3+ hours in a theatre is a bit too long for us without having to get up to run (or hobble) to the rest room. We'll wait for the movie to show up on a streaming service so we can pause the stream as needed. Besides, we pretty much limit our theatre visits to matinees...fewer people means fewer people talking....loudly...during the film, fewer cell phone lighting up the theatre, etc. We've been married for 53-years (55 if you count

Also...what is CAM quality??

We are watching The Night Manager, based on a novel by David Cornwell :)coolsmiley:). Each episode is more gripping than the previous one. Stellar cast: Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, and others.
In general, the screen adaptations of Le Carre's books are outstanding, and, IMO, better than the books. I very much enjoyed both versions of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (the older TV version stars Alec Guinness as George Smiley) and also The Spy Who Came In from the Cold.

rk911 CAM quality might be the video that someone took using a camcorder or their phone in a theater and then posted it online.

I'm currently giving that a re-watch. It's also very good eye candy - for everyone.

I’ve read that, with a bit of “Painkiller” as well. I’ve not seen either. Lots of Poe.

I did finish the series and enjoyed it tremendously. Very appropriate for Halloween season.

Scorsese, DiCaprio, DeNiro among others.

Apple signed a deal with Scorcese.

It will stream on Apple TV+ after its theatrical run.

Just watched epi 3 of the new Frasier...yup, just as bad as epis 1 and 2. sad.

It isn't bad, per se, it's disappointing.

My take on it:

Episode 1 was slow and clunky because too much time was spent telling the backstory and not jokes.

Episode 2 was a vast improvement. Some genuine laughs in there and it showed good potential for the series to get better.

Episode 3 was slow and tedious and preachy. It was simplistic, not sophisticated humor. Tried to be sentimental but failed for this viewer.

I'm not giving up on it yet. Kelsey Grammar's comedic skills are too good to keep hidden for long. They need better scripts that will maximize his talents.

Disappointing is a better description. Extremely disappointing. Epi 3 was followed by S1E4 of the orginal series. Seeing the new and old back-to-back should dispell any doubt.

Started "Fall of the House of Usher" last night. Fun and intriguing for Halloween. Not for the faint of heart, for sure. My high school had a Gothic Literature class and Poe was a big part of the semester.

My wife and I started to watch "Old Dads" on Netflix. It didn't take more than 5 minutes before we turned it off. It is bad enough to deal with obnoxious snarky people in real life. I don't need to waste my time watching them for entertainment.
This may appeal to some folks but not us.

Cheers!

I watched ep. 4 of the new season last night. It was OK to good. Nothing special but had a couple of good laughs.

We're watching old Frasier again for the ?? time. We usually wait about a year before watching it again. I'm enjoying the old F better than the new F. New F seems overly silly to me.
