Golf Talk Tuesdays - 2021

If you want sticker shock, do not... I repeat DO NOT... go shopping for a new putter.
Mine was $439, worth every penny - fortunately I don't change putters often. Sticker shock seems to apply to all things golf IMO, not just putters. The trick is to own racing sailboats for 25 years like we did, after that golf is a bargain.

My philosophy is, the putter is the most important and most used club in the bag. People won't bat an eye dropping $500 for a driver but then go bargain basement hunting for a cheap unbalanced putter. Not saying you need to buy the latest Scotty Cameron putter but you get what you pay for.

I don't think he will be close enough to win, but wow, is Justin Rose having a great round... two eagles, one bogie and six birdies... 9 under after 14 holes!

Rory is looking good but JT is keeping the pressure on... Fineau is floundering a bit.

Rory peaking a week too soon. Tony is 3 under so not really floundering. But Mac can do no wrong.

But when you are -3 for the day after 9 holes and your main competitors are -5 for the day after 9 holes you are not doing yourself any favors.

I said "floundering a bit", but I'll withdraw "floundering a bit" and replace it with "not keeping pace".

Yep this golf course is submitting today Rose is now 11 under with 3 to play

Just listened to. Jay m representing the PGA after 10 minutes of talk my perception is they are plenty worried about LIV golf.

I think any decent putter will work.

Scoring is all about the short game. Most people that pay $500 for a new driver would have done better by spending the $500 (or less) on some lessons and practicing chipping and putting.

I paid $230 recently for a Ping Heppler putter. It’s an adjustable shaft length putter. In the store I tried out all kinds of putters many higher than this one but I liked it the best. Of course I 3 putted my first hole with it. Ha. But it was on a new course with faster greens than I was used too. Yeah….I’m going with that.

Congrats to Rory... well done... final round 62 despite missing a couple short putts along the way. Next week should be fun to watch.

Two 64s and a 62 in the last group ..where were the traditional difficult Sunday pins. The field just wrecked that course today.

Thought it was cute for Rory to say he was happy to have win #21, to pull ahead of another guy with 20 (Norman). It was great play today all around, Rory survived all comers. Too bad Rose bogied the last hole to miss out on a 59, I am sure he could par that hole any other day without fail.

It will be interesting to see how the fans treat the LIV golfers that are playing in the US Open this week, Boston fans can be outspoken. The press conferences should be entertaining if those players take part, won't be able to kick reporters out this week for asking difficult questions.

So no reporter actually got kicked out of press conferences for LIV over asking questions did you watch any of the press conferences at all? Watch the one with Phil and you'll see the press asked hardball questions.

There was an issue with the dude that wrote the PM bio as to if he was permitted there but it's not the way its being portrayed. That particular writer has wanted to make himself the story over this entire situation.

Boston fans can razz you about the color of you clothes so yes it will be interesting to see if the fan on the ground has an opinion about the LIV.

I would bet there is going to be increased security around DJ and Phil and anyone in the crowd that is slightly inappropriate will be escorted out. I have mixed feelings about the LIV tour but "to each his own". The lawyers are salivating over the PGA tour's suspensions.

The NBA caters to China and seems to get a free pass from the media.

Beside Alan Shipnuck AP reporter Rob Harris was walked out of the press conference for asking uncomfortable questions.

from some reading this was a result of Harris unprofessional aggressive manner not the actual questions. Apparently the reporter took a time out and was readmitted. There's so much rhetoric going on its difficult to get the facts. It will be interesting to see if the open press conferences are restricted to golf reporters.

It will be interesting to see if some golfers wait until after Open week to declare for LIV

Phil M will be doing a presser at the Open early this afternoon

I played for nearly 50 years and never broke 80. :) 81 is my best round.

Mike

Last week I had a Jekyll and Hyde round. 37 on the front nine . I might actually break below 80 for the first time ever! Then a 50 on the back nine . I love this game... :)
