This story is pretty weird. I had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, sometimes grouped with pit-bulls. He was a farm dog, not often restrained walking. He killed coons, minks, rats and whatever was unaware enough to wander onto our place. This cat would have scratched him and hissed and then died.

In my childhood, there were no leash laws and lots of folks just let their dogs run. My old Tom kept them out of our yard - no matter the size or breed. He had different markings, but could have stunt-doubled for Morris (holes in the ears and all!)

Owner hauled her cat off the dog and had her fingers scratched. Definitely a shocked reaction.

Most of the time nothing bad happens if people aren't in the mix. Animals seem to be more about warnings and don't escalate all that often. Also thre is the old fight or flight and animals usually vote for flight.

My theory anyway.
