Amazon Prime movie suggestions

Have you seen movie Beautiful Boy ? Very good film.

Agree, it was very well done and acted, but if your looking for something light and uplifting, this is not it.

New season of Catastrophe is airing in the UK now I believe.

So it should be on Prime in a few months.

What is the Catastrophe
show about?

Ah this is probably the wrong thread but it's kind of a sitcom about an Irish woman and an American who meet, have a one-night stand and she gets pregnant and he decides to come to live with her in London.

So it's produced in the US.

Very acerbic but funny dialogue.

The creators are a TV comedy writer (her) and an American stand-up (him) so the writing is great.

Did no one like "The Man From High Castle"?

I like it,but..........

It’s time to wrap it up. Surely the head American Nazi has had his fill of the awful things they have done to his country and his family.

Try "Victoria" if you like Downton Abbey. Every episode has historical events that I check out and they are pretty accurate. Her marriage, her children, her reaction to disaster is amazing. Her reign as queen was 64 years! I even looked at actual Victoria paintings and pictures to see if the actress resembles her. She does to an extent(as a young queen), except Victoria was chubby. I love English history. I wish they'd make an accurate one about King Henry the XIII and his daughter Elizabeth with Ann Boleyn. That would take 10 seasons. I'd watch every episode.

Loved Victoria and watched it on PBS. I know this is an Amazon Prime thread and I have not read all thru the thread to see if this is mentioned or if Amazon has it, but "Reign" is on Netflix which is the history of Mary, Queen of Scots. Elizabeth, King Henry XIII's daughter is also a major role as it goes into King Henry as her father and what happened to her mother Ann Boleyn. Depicts the competition between Mary and Elizabeth with lots of history about France, Scotland and England.
I loved it !

Yeah, but a 20 episode commitment is kind of a heavy lift.

I did see part of it years ago on Netflix. The history period is very interesting to me, and I know about it. But, sorry, I thought that series was poor particularly due to bad acting and writing, even though the costumes and settings were great. I’ve seen so many far better historical series on Netflix, etc. I gave up even half watching it while cooking.

Victoria in the other hand - brilliant!

Been watching The Grand Tour. The boys are phoning it in these days but are still entertaining.

Waiting for The Expanse Season 4 and Good Omens to start.

Have been enjoying a docu-series called "Deadliest Journeys" If you can get past the cheesy title and the cheesy opening (man, it is terrible) the shows are actually very well done. A camera crew follows people in third world countries who deliver things for a living. It is incredible what people go through to make a living. Plus, sometimes the cinematography is incredible...

The Borgias, with Jeremy Irons - 2011-2013 helped me understand the corruption, greed and politics within the Catholic Church. Very corporate like structure. I think of all the peasants who donated their last penny to support the popes and their lifestyle. Guilt ridden mind control...not like taxes :). Give or you'll go to hell, a much more devious way to get money, IMHO.

Thanks, I will refer to this list when searching for next watch.

I just started watching The Americans this afternoon. I've seen two episodes so far. I'm enjoying it.

I watched all seasons of The Americans. This interview with a CIA agent after the finale made it all more interesting. I suggest listening to the interview, but you can read parts of it too. It's surprising how much is accurate in the series.

https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2018/05/30/the-americans-spy-disguises-cia-officer

Some of the episodes were far fetched but it was interesting to me. DW did not feel good about sort of rooting for the other side. I personally am confused as to how to think about the lead characters. We only watched some of the series first season. Did we miss a lot? Did it change from the initial view of the lead characters?

I read a lot of spy novels and prefer the more realistic ones. I think espionage is fascinating but I'm always rooting for the USA side. :)

DH is watching The Americans—DD and her DH have watched it from the beginning and love it so want to discuss with DH. DH is loving it too. Not on my list, though—I liked Keri Russell in Felicity too much

Hi all, I nuked the last 4 posts (Chuckanut, Mango1956, explanade, Lsbcal) above Audrey's comment - while they didn't explicitly contain play by plays, they went into a bit more detail, and were a bit more spoiler-y than some folks might want.

Let's keep the content here to recommendations and endorsements, and not share too more about later episodes and/or outcomes, so others can enjoy them just as much as we did.

(PS yes, The Americans is a great series)

Carry on!

Hmm, I guess this forum doesn't have spoiler tags.

I do appreciate an overview of the movie/series. Just to get a feel for where I'm going. Example: Intense spy, mystery journey. Or funny/sad real life story. Leave the details out. I would describe "Wild Wild Country" as the craziest 100% true documentary I've ever seen. No details. Plus, I was not aware this even happened in the U.S.

Good Omens (based on the Pratchett/Gaiman book)

I just finished watching Good Omens and enjoyed it very much. It is only six episodes - perfect for bingeing. It's based on the 1990 book of the same name by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

I am not usually a fan of the fantasy/otherworldly genre (books or movies) at all, and had never even heard of the book or the authors until a few weeks ago, but David Tennant stars in the series - enough said! :D

The day the series was released on Amazon I reserved the book at my local library, and by the next day it had 16 holds placed on it. For once I beat the crowd.

I am reading the book now and enjoying it immensely. Gaiman wrote the series, and according to die-hard fans of the book, it is extremely faithful to the book.

Fleabag is the one getting all the buzz.

12 episodes, 2 seasons, Amazon Prime.
