Baseball 2016

^ watch out for Houston

Right now I am on the injury watch list wondering who's next. Seems to be a frequent problem of the Rangers in losing key talent to injuries/DL. I haven't seen how they stack up against other teams in that area, but I suspect they'd be pretty high on the list.

Supposedly the trade was based on the cubs signing Chapman to a long term deal.

How does the long term deal part work? Does Chapman just give his scouts honor to not move elsewhere at end of year? Or are all bets off?

The Cubs gave up a lot. That said, if Chapman is the missing piece to the world series (similar to Johnny Cueto last year for the Royals) and the Cubbies win, then resources well spent. Otherwise, that's a lot to give up if Chapman doesn't sign an extended contract.

Overall, I like the trade (can anyone say Sling TV for the playoffs in October? :)) as long as Rizzo and Chapman don't duke it out in the clubhouse  with any left over feelings from their near fight last years.

I wondered how the long term deal part would work also. It's something I read online somewhere when this started to break. I suppose they could agree to do the trade and then give him an extension. I don't know. But I just read another news clip that didn't confirm the long term deal, but suggested that it's ok to sign a prospective free agent closer because he alone could effectively win the world series. We'll see.

With Chapman as a real closer this adds so much as now if they have a lead by around the 6th or 7th inning, the Cubs are in good shape to win a lot of games if Edwards Jr (great arm, great control) and Rondon (set up fits him well) doing the bulk of the setup work. I'm not too crazy about Pedro Strop though.

They just really might be the team to beat.

I think they are the team to beat. I'm a White Sox fan, and have been subjected to a lot of talk recently of the Cubs trading for Chris Sale. I don't see that happening now.

Looks like the White Sox are rebuilding. Even so, to part with Sale would be painful for White Sox fans.

He would looked great in a Cubs uniform. Of course again, depending who goes the other way.

Playing fantasy GM, say if the Cubs don't come to contract terms with Arrietta when his contract is up and if Sale is still around with the White Sox, I'd have no problem with such a trade. Straight up.

But seems the Cubs and White Sox don't make big trades with each other. Probably not since Sosa, but that was in his pre [-]scamming [/-] slamming Sammy Sosa days .

Anyone see the little league championship game yesterday between US and south korea? Great game with exceptional pitching from both teams. Endwell, NY team won.

Always watch LLWS, family ritual. DW and I grew up in Williamsport, chance to see home without going there!

Congratulations to all the teams that made it there.

Aside from all the fun I had playing as a kid, my former Mega-Corp had a plant in Williamsport that I used to visit periodically, so have a soft spot in my heart for watching each year. Its a nice town.

Well I am a "carpetbagger fan" but with you on the Royals...Almost forgot as they went into the tank last month. But in early July while in Vegas I took a $50 flyer (my only baseball bet) on Royals to win World Series again at 50-1 odds... Suddenly in the past week my interest level has picked up a bit...They are on a tear!

The Cubbies are on a roll.

When there’s a catch everyone’s talking about, sometimes you see it and you say “Yeah, that’s cool.” And then there are times you see the day’s most talked-about catch and say “HOLY CRAP WHAT DID HE JUST DO, THAT IS AN AMAZING CATCH.” This is one of those “HOLY CRAP” catches.
Addison Russell shows off hustle with phenomenal run-saving grab

Which only makes me more nervous come playoff time... After all no matter what record, they still are the Cubs.

That was a great catch. As to the Cubs chances in the playoffs - great unless the goat appears at a game.

Or unless Steve Bartman comes to playoff game

My worries exactly.

With their history, they'd probably be on the cusp of the world series this year year a power outage or something happens and messes things up.

Or they just run into a team with great arms like last year and go cold in the playoffs.

That said, I'm all in. Well, in with fingers crossed :).

Went to the Cubs - Giants game last Saturday. Great day for a game, but the Cubs lost.

Key to Cubs playoff shot is not to go into a "power slump" all at once. They tend to do that at times but have been more consistent this year. Hopefully more maturity will help them avoid it this year.

Looks like the bullpen injuries are clearing up which is a great sign.

I think sometimes they fall in love with the long ball and forget to play small ball. The challenge for them is to stay hot going into the playoffs, but not overtax the players expected to make the playoff roster.

A 5 game series scares me as if the Cards make the wildcard and face the Cubbies, I'm sure the Cards would love to return to favor of knocking the Cubs out this year. The Giants scare me too with some really good arms. Then there's still the Mets hanging around. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Cubbies have long been my second favorite team, now they are my most favorite for the remainder of the year.

Mulligan, too bad lightning didn't strike twice (or thrice I guess).

After clinching last night, the Cubbies put in most of the back up players and still managed to comeback and win today. When things are going good, things go good :).

But, when the post season starts, I sure hope they don't pull a Golden State Warriors :(.

The Mets scare me, as well as the Giants with their good arms. The Cards are not push over either. But that is then, this is now. Just enjoying the ride :D.

The Astro's are finished for the year. The Texas Rangers team has had them for lunch way too many times this season.

My local team was mathematically eliminated long ago, but I still enjoy going to the occasional game. Baseball is a great game to watch at the park.

It's been amazing. I think the Rangers are in their heads. I'm a Ranger fan and have loved it. But my second favorite team are the Astros so I wish they could make a wild card like last year.

Astros are a good team. The way the Rangers have owned them is crazy. A great example a few days ago. Astros take a 1 run lead into top of 9th. They get first two outs quickly. They strike out Odor but instead of game over he gets to first on the loose third strike. Next thing you know the Rangers score 2 and close it out in the bottom of 9th. Like I said. In their heads.

If it wasn't for the lopsided season series with the Rangers the Astros would probably be the wild card leaders.

The Rangers just beat Oakland tonight by scoring two runs in the 9th with two outs. The team is on a roll!
