Daily WORDLE - 2022

At least this article describing the purchase isn't behind the paywall.

Since I already subscribe to the NYT puzzles it feels kinda like when Fidelity took over the administration of my 401K - all the same stuff just now consolidated in fewer locations.

Welp..this article is behind a paywall, so I'm guessing Wordle will be soon as well!

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/31/...k-times-wordle.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

"The hit game Wordle has been purchased by the New York Times Company for a price "in the low seven figures," the company said."

There's already some clones aren't there? You could do quite a few variations on this theme (and make it harder/easier), and I doubt the IP rights would be able to stop them (just don't use a word too similar to "Wordle", don't use the same colors, etc).

I don't think the NYT will dare put this behind a paywall for a long time. Would generate too much ill will. Better to use it as a loss leader to introduce their other word games (which I don't subscribe to, I already have enough time sinks).

I had a shot to get it in 3, but guessed the wrong 5th letter.

Yesterday's Word & Getting led down the garden path

I know what you mean. Once you got the last 4 of today's letters there were 7 choices for the first.

So I get 4 out of 5 on my first guess. Should be easy? NO! I was sweating bullets. Right from the start, I could think of 7 words (seven!) to fit the pattern. I'm playing "hard mode" so I didn't just pick random words to get rid of letters. I easily could have lost this.

There are actually 12 words that Wordle accepts ending in "I G H T". A few days ago, I pointed out this challenge:

I play easy mode, so I don't have the problem that I call "getting led down the garden path". This is the case where you have 4 letters that could be a whole lot of words (eight, fight, light, might, night, right, sight, tight, wight).

In this case, I would try to make a word out of the letters "e, f, l, m, n, r, s, t, w", so maybe I'd try "TERMS". And if still in a quandary, "FLOWN".

Again - I seemed to pick the wrong first letter several times. Too many options.

So far 100% for the word. Someone in my office got it in 2 and the other day, another one got that day's in two.

Yikes! I survived!

It isn't always good to get a good hit on your first try if you play hard mode. Now I finally understand hard mode.
