Attended a local Oktoberfest and checked out the tall, attractive German women who apparently live around here somewhere but are only seen at Oktoberfest.

Check a camera today I moved a few days ago trying to get some moose on camera. I been getting some pictures of them now. I see sign but don't see them often but once in a while. When driving in I may see a glimpse and then they are done. Here is a little guy.

Excellent capture!

Nice Picture @street
congrats on the maiden voyage @RobbieB

We had breakfast with family, then did some planning to put skirting around that 5th wheel on the right in the picture above. it has a vinyl skirt around it, but that won't do so much when the temps are in the 20's and teens this winter. I have leftover lumber from the 520 bridge project laying about and will put insulation boards behind that, and a vapor barrier down.
I had prepared a pad for it, ran the utilities and set the temporary power pole. They will stay on the property while the new house is being built.

Came back from a couple of days in the Boundary waters with the family.

I unmolded and cut my latest 5 lb. batch of soap into bars (I use old wooden cigar boxes as molds). I put it out to dry and harden in the garage, and the batch I made 6 months ago has been brought in to replace the batch prior to that, which is down to its last bar. Yes, that's right - I usually have between 6 months' and a year's worth of soap on hand.

It doesn't actually save me any money to make my own soap. In fact, it probably costs about 50% more than just buying bar soap at Walmart. Importantly, however, I get to craft the soap to have the precise qualities I want in terms of cleansing versus skin conditioning, and I can scent it however I like. It is also a satisfying thing to do. If I just went unscented and therefore didn't need to use expensive essential oils, the cost per ounce of soap would be about 10% less than Walmart.
I LOVE cutting soap, and 6 month old bars are so much better than 6 week old bars. Enjoy them!

I'm packing for Mexico- I leave bright and early Tuesday morning. On Mondays I volunteer at a facility that does physical therapy for handicapped kids on horses. We usually walk 9+ miles per day so I need to get most of it done tonight.

Today marks exactly 20 years since my last day of paid employment.

Since then I have:
  • run 3 marathons and 9 half marathons
  • traveled all over the US and parts of Canada
  • visited 22 other countries, some of them multiple times
  • maintained my weight not far from my college weight
  • moved twice, now in final home (hopefully)
  • acquired four new hobbies and reactivated two old ones
and never worried even once what I would do all day.

braumeister, congratulations!

Sounds like you had a very busy 20 year with much enjoyment.

+1
Way to go, braumeister!

Flew an R/C airplane around in the back yard for a while. Yesterday the same airplane wouldn't function at all; I took much of it apart and could find nothing wrong but upon reassembly it still wouldn't work. Today it inexplicably worked perfectly.

I attribute the cause to gremlins.

DW and I had appointments for vaccinations today. For me, flu and for her, a Pfizer booster shot. I got mine, but she was turned away because she got her second shot 6 months ago on the 12th of the month and today is only the 11th.

My current project is re-plumbing the grey water tank on my camper and for 5 feet of ABS pipe, 5 fittings and a can of glue it was about $50. Just for grins, I swung by the Habitat ReStore and found most of what I needed for about $2, so I'll be returning the extra stuff to Lowes. I know. I know. BTD.

I just completed an ascorbic acid (vitamin C) treatment of our pool. I brought the PH down to 7.2 and the chlorine down to zero (shut down my chlorinator). I then spread 4.5 pounds of ascorbic acid around the perimeter of the pool and let the acid circulate for a few days. The pool became spotless almost like magic and the plaster is now bright white. I added sequestrant to prevent future stains (Jack's Purple Magic). I then turned the chlorinator back on to slowly restore chlorine to normal levels.

Good work. I'm only 6.5 years from paid employment and have maintained my college day weight also but I mostly cycle instead of running.

Drizzling and snow is suppose to here shortly. I drained the sand point pump and stored it away for the wintah. Rolled up hose and a few other things getting ready for snow. I was going to go to ranch and cut up some downed ash trees for fire wood but rain and drizzle will delay that project.

Rain here tomorrow but no snow.. doing the same thing today we have been doing since early October, combining corn.

Overcast and wet here after yesterday's rains. This year's firewood is ready to go, but I like to be two years ahead, and I'm not there yet with about two cords to go. Bucked up two smaller fallen oak trees on my wooded hillside and rolled the rounds to the bottom of the hill. Then wheel-barreled the rounds to my splitting pile. Immediately took a shower because I was in quite a bit of poison ivy and poison oak. Still a tangle of fallen trees to clean up on the other end of the hill. Those are bigger, and I'll need to go slow due to the tangle.

A lot of corn out yet here. There are two large fields next to my place that are going to be combined. I'm sure they will be at it in November & December if the snow doesn't get to deep.

All silage is finished up a week or so ago here.

A lot of snow around us so far but this time looks like about 5 to 8 inches of the heavy stuff for us and not going to miss us this time. Lol

That's going to put a major "damper" in combining. We hate snow the worst, I guess it would be second behind mud...

Hope there is a warmup for the farmers in your area.

They combine a few hours each day when they can. The issue is most don't have room to store all the corn so they combine and sell. Moisture is their enemy when it gets so late in the year to combine corn and then storage. They may dry a semi load at a time then sell.

90 F here today and very humid. I'm putting off Fall yard cleanup until it gets cooler here. It's supposed to be much cooler next week so I will see how it goes.

A benefit of dry, dry summer corn is coming out of the field at around 16-17%..

It was a beautiful day today - sunny, dry and not too hot or cold. One of my former colleagues who just retired 2 weeks ago and I went to the range and put many holes in paper targets. Then we had lunch and caught up. It was a really great time.

Flew three of the small R/C airplanes in the back yard (the heaviest is ~3 oz.) for a while, it has been a while since I'd flown those. They are the "wintertime models" since I can get everything ready inside, step outside and fly them, then go back inside to warm up. I did well, none of them got stuck in trees.

DW is away for a couple of days babysitting the newest grandniece, now four months old. The parents do have daycare arranged but much prefer family members look after the kids whenever it's convenient for everyone. And DW just loves it one or two days at a time.

I'll have to ask the moisture is on their corn now. The new land I'm in the process of buying is irrigated land and this corn still standing waiting to be combined is irrigated crop land. Moisture could be higher on it and some was late to get in the ground last spring.
