My philosophy on this is that the pain of losing them mirrors the joy they gave you for many years in life.

spot on, rich. i've finally come to understand that myself. it's easy for me to think i've lost too much. but when i think of all the loss i've endured in a clearer light, i realize how lucky i've been in life that i had so much to lose.
